TV screen failure, where should I check first?

Recently, My Toshiba 43U6663DB started showing snow on half of its screen. The issue is intermittent not always present, but has been getting worse. Sometimes it doesn't show for days, sometimes it wont go away for days. Where should I check first? I would upload images if I could just find out how Regards, Mario

You may have dirty connections on the ribbon cable they can be cleaned with an aerosol.

Well, tried that, didn't really have much of an effect (the issue did get a little bit better, but I don't know if cleaning the cables had anything to do with it)

    I'm thinking T-con maybe?

The backlight inverter is dropping out, on the older lgs the backlight inverter is separate from the power supply, if this is the case you can only obtain it with a new panel.

otherwise the newer lgs have the inverter built on the power supply.
in this case you can replace the entire power board.

SOURCE: Half the screen doesn't work. It goes black

You need to go into the back of set and look for the wire connection to the board that is top center (looking from the back of the set). The wire plug will be about 1 and a half to 2 inches wide with several wires on it. Carefully unplug the wire going to that board and take a pencil eraser and clean the contacts gently and carefully. Plug it back up. The wire mentioned will come from the main board (with all the jacks and connections).

TV half snow static, half perfect

The T-con board sounds like the most likely issue on your Vizio. Typically if the video signal is being sent to the T-con, then the t-con resolves it into the format required by the LCD screen. In this case since part of the video is fine and the part is snow/static, I would suspect the T-con. Is it perfectly half the screen? Typically there are two connectors out of the t-con to the LCD, so one if one of those is loose or going bad, then that may be the issue as well.

Half screen showing picture other half showing color lines

This is a catastrophic and known failure of older Toshiba sets, not much you can do, try to take out a retrospective extended warranty, wait a month and claim, good luck.

Tp55f80 tv. to much red on screen

You have a convergence failure. It may be possible to simply re-solder the pin connections under the convergence output ICs as they have a tendency to develop cold solder joints which cause intermittent mis-convergence. If the solder connections are good, then replacment of the ICs will be necessary. Expect to pay $350-450 to have a toshiba servicer fix this.

Input feed problem

I would suggest using the AV inputs instead of the coaxial input. It looks like there might be a tuner intermittent failure but using the AV inputs bypasses the tuner.
Good Luck.

Records snow/static - intermittently

Intermittent problems like this really suck.
I have a simular problem on my Toshiba DVD recorder. Once in a while it just doesn't record anything at all.

Unfortunately, there really is no solution. It sounds like a glitch in the unit to me. Wether or not it's present in all the units of that model or just yours, only Panasonic knows for sure.

Recorder is not showing tv listings

I spoke with Toshiba tech support today (800-631-3811). They have an advanced services team that focuses on TV Guide On Screen. Learned the following:

- The TV Guide On Screen signal is updated 4x / day and is broadcast by your service provider
- The broadcast channel varies depending on what the service provider chooses (though typically a major network or PBS station)
- TV Guide On Screen has been doing some reprogramming and updates recently and this has resulted in many sporadic outages

If you ARE not receiving your listings, it's one of two things - either your DVR or the signal from the cable company.

- If you are having issues, call Toshiba and let them know, they will walk through some basic troubleshooting to narrow down if the problem is the DVR or the TV Guide On Screen signal.
- If the issue is the TV Guide On Screen signal, they will be able to report the issue to TV Guide On Screen and let them know their is an issue.

After that - it's in someone else's hands!

TV Tuner failure after warm up

Check where the F connector is soldered inside the tuner circuitry, it may have a loose solder joint there. Also check the inside of the connector where the coax is attach, sometimes the inside conductors spreads and do not make good electrical contacts.
Good Luck.
