I see from a previous question that F6 code on the kenmore microwave is a relay failure. Our model is 66561622100 and is 17 years old. Is this repairable?

From the research I did the parts needed are no longer available, but you may be able to pull the main board and send it for repair.

SOURCE: Kenmore Microwave hood combo Model # 66569689992 F6 error code?

i fixed by unplugging the microwave with the door open. I plugged it back in and the F6 was gone. I was then able to set the clock and turn the light on/off . When I closed the microwave door, the F6 came back on and the microwave was making a humming noise. I slapped the side of the microwave near the keypad, and the F6 cleared from the readout and the humming stopped. The microwave is working fine now. Don't know why, except maybe slap on the side reset a relay or something. Anyway, I will never by a Sears Kenmore appliance for the rest of my life. The door rattles when you open a close it (like a part inside the door is broken) and this is the second time a fault code has appeared during use. I had GE Profile appliances at my last house, which are more $$ initial cost, but who wants to screw around buying a new microwave every four or five years. I'll happily spend a couple hundred more for the peace of mind and knowing that it will work during Thanksgiving dinner with the family over.

The first three digits of your model number are 665, which means it was made by Whirlpool.

On a Whirlpool, F6 means a fault on the control board, such as a timing error or a shorted relay.

A shorted relay could mean it is running when it shouldn't. Pleased don't allow it to do that for more than a few seconds, or other serious damage could occur.

The first thing to try is a "hard reset". Unplug it from the power line for a few minutes, plug it back in, set the clock, then try again.

If it still fails, please leave it unplugged, and I would say you have a problem on your control panel assembly, which we repair for customers nationwide with our $39.95 service.

F6 appears to be a relay failure on the main board, but it may be a door switch or door switch mount.

This is usually caused by either a bad door switch, a loose door switch mount, or a problem on the control panel.

Even though a door switch clicks, it may still be bad inside. Its continuity must be checked.

Door switch or mount trouble can be caused by slamming the door or by opening the door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.

There are plastic mounts inside the microwave which hold the door switches and onto which the door hooks latch when you close the door.

The screws on these mounts may be loose. If they get too loose, the switches will not be activated properly.

Sometimes it's a broken tab on the switch holder, allowing the switch to rotate just out of position. Other times, it's a broken tab on the switch holder, allowing the switch to rotate just out of position. This tab can be hard to see, since it is under the bottom edge of the switch.

The owner's manual should spell that all out.

But if you don't still have yours, you can download one via Sears' "Manage My Home" site here. While it's free, you will have to register.

(You *may* be able to download it here without logging in. If not, go ahead and register. It's free.)

Microwave is humming when off display says F6

We had a power failure for 2+ hours. I went to defrost something when the power came back on. Somewhere along the line the F6 popped up. With the door closed it sounded like the machine was running.
I slapped the side too and it worked. I pulled the vent cover off to clean it and found the tech sheet stuffed in a bag inside. I found what F6 means. 'Microwave relay failure. Check wiring to relay 4903 for short circuits. If wiring is ok, replace control board' Then, of course, a whack on the side by the button panel worked
just as well. rek('_tx6');
Reference: It means the relay is stuck in the run position. Apparently if you slap the unit hard enough it will unstick the relay and allow it to work properly again. rek('_tx7');

Code F6

That's usually failure of a relay on the control board.

There should be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

I have have a 10 year old Kenmore Hood/Microwave combo built by Whirpool. I'm getting an F6 error code. What is the error code trying to tell me?

F6 —Microwave Relay Failure: Check the microwave relay.

The F6 error code which is flashing on your microwave refers to a faulty relay. However, I would suggest that you first try to run a diagnostic (which you may not be able to, but it is beneficial if it works). Here is how:

The microwave oven may be provided with a self diagnostic routine that can be operated through the touch pad keyboard. To enter the self-diagnostic routine:
1.While pressing the CANCEL keypad:
a) Open the oven door.
b) Unplug the microwave oven for 2-seconds and plug it back in.
c) Release the CANCEL keypad and close the oven door.

NOTE: The humidity sensor test results will appear on the display after 8-seconds.If the tests are successful, "OK " will be displayed. If one or more of the tests fail, "ERR " will be displayed.. 2.When a keypad is pressed, a number according to the test chart will be displayed. When no keypad is pressed, a blank "—" is displayed.
If you want to try to fix it your self, Always remember Electricity is dangerous and should be treated with respect.
Microwaves are very dangerous, they can still shock you even unplugged!!
Use a metal ( not the shiny chrome type ) screw driver with a insulated handle to short across ( touch both at the same time ) the terminals of the high voltage capacitor to discharge it. With the microwave unplugged.

Hope that helps.........
