Computer Does Not Detect Headset Microphone

Recently purchased a Logitech ClearChat Stereo headset. I've used one before to great success (before a dog got hold of it).
When I plug the microphone jack into the frontal jack of the HP dv6000 laptop I'm using, it doesn't detect the microphone. It instead continues using the built-in microphone (of horrible quality). Headset mic does not appear in the Recording devices listing. A possibly related issue is the fact the built in microphone says it's using the 3.5mm frontal jack itself.
Using Windows Vista Home Premium Headset headphones DO work and produce sound All microphone devices checked for muted

That is unfortunate...Do you think a Plug & Play to USB converter help this problem?

Sound and Recording jacks stop working on the DV6000 series due to the ribbon cable running under the power button. when the power button is pushed it bends the flex cable and over time it breaks the connection rendering the front jacks useless you can buy a new upper button panel for about 20 dollars on ebay

Do you have sound otherwise? The sound to your headset comes from your sound card. You need to ensure the soundcard is properly installed. If it's ok, check there are no checks in the boxes on your audio controller. Right click on the little speaker icon in the system tray and select "Adjust audio properties", Select the "Audio" tab and choose "Sound playback". Clear any checks from the appropriate boxes and set the volume level to suit. Should now work.

Clear chat mic doent work

in skype go to tools>options>audio setting make sue the microphone is logitech and the green bars should start moving as you talk.
if no logitech appears or the mic is not producing sound. call logitech for warranty info. if the mic is producing sound below is "make a free skype test call" to see if the program is transmitting.
