Ice builds up around the back of the "auger screw" and it stops turning when requested (Whirlpool ED22TWXDN00).

NOTE: After removing the bin and defrosting the ice build-up it works again, but after a few days the build-up returns.

There are many parts in this component that may be the culprit .
One or more will need to be replaced.
This is not easy to diagnose. I've seen service order parts 2 or 3 times till they completed the ice maker repair on a side by side fridge!
You need a hands on tech for this repair!

SOURCE: Fridge won't dispense ice through door.

First take the hopper out and let it de-ice completely making sure that it is dry before re-installing it. Make sure that the auger moves when re installed with no ice in it.

SOURCE: How to separate auger from agitator. whirlpool ultimate care II

When you look down into the agitator, are there 4 white plastic points that look slightly melted or otherwise deformed? If so, using a small flat head screw and a small hammer, separate the white plastic from the surrounding translucent plastic. Once you've done that, it should easily pull apart.

Whirlpool refrigerator ED5RHEXMT00 makes plenty of ice but is not dispensing any when the door lever is pressed. The water part is fine.

The ice bin slides down in little tracks and the drive mechanism engages the auger. It sounds like you have frost build-up in the bottom of the little slots that the ice bin rests in. The build-up keeps the drive from engaging the auger. I use a hair dryer to defrost all the accumulation under the bin once it is removed. Remove the bin by tilting out and then lifting up and out at an angle. Also empty the bin of ice cubes and check underneath for ice build up on the bottom of it too.

Whirlpool side by side ice storage bin will not go back into place due to the auger

I had this exact same problem. After a difficult removal of the ice bucket (admittedly a lot of yanking against frozen ice cubes before I decided to chisel them out from above), I could no longer seat the ice bucket back onto the hexagonal auger drive shaft. When activating the ice dispenser, I could hear the motor turning, but the auger shaft itself would not rotate. The cause was that the auger shaft had moved upward through its stop grommet during all of the yanking to remove the ice bucket.

Take off the two hex screws holding the top plate around the auger shaft. The shaft is then easily removable and you can inspect it for slippage against the stop grommet. In the attached photo, you can see there is about 1/2 inch of clean auger shaft visible above the grommet, where the shaft has slid upward relative to the grommet. If this is the case, the fix is simple. Turn the shaft upside down and lightly tap the grommet around the edges with a small hammer until it moves back into place. Upon replacing the auger shaft, you can feel it seat back into the drive motor adapter.

Whirlpool side by side ref auger froze up. will not turn.is there a reset button?

The auger motor is not very powerful, so if you have ice build up in the bin, it can hold the auger motor immobile. Suggest you take the ice bin out and completely defrost and dry before putting back in.

Kenmore model number 253.55693400 when I push the ice dispenser tab the motor to push ice is on, but not pushing ice out.

You have an auger type of ice dispenser, so when you say you hear the motor is on, do you mean it is turning the auger? Take out the ice bin and close the door, push the dispense button and then open the door quickly to see if the auger is turning. If is is then dump your ice bin and let it sit out until it is completely defrosted and dry. Reinstall the ice bin and put the lever down. And see if that will clear the problem. The auger motor is not that strong and if you get any ice build up under the auger it will stop working. So defrosting and drying will normally clear it up.

Ice Maker not dispensing ice...

Thanks anyway, guys, but I figured it out. Hopefully this can help someone else. I noted that the auger indeed is supposed to rotate fully and not just swing from side to side as mine was doing. I then noted that my auger had screwed itself too far into the slotted plastic plate at the back of the bin. It was therefore lopsided in the bin and hitting on both sides. I took the contraption apart so that I could back it out and put it back correctly in the slot. The ring shape of the end of the auger fit snugly back around the round plastic ring again. Buttoned it all back up and I'm good to go....for now. (smile)
