It sounds just like you have it set to free arm. Find your switch and turn the free arm off.

Actually, it's called darning when the feed dogs are dropped. The only problem is that this machine does not drop the feed dogs. It comes with a darning plate to cover the feed dogs.

SOURCE: Feed dogs not feeding material

Make sure that you did not disengage the feed dogs by accident. You should have some type of button that allows you to control the feed dogs.

SOURCE: Feed doesn't feed Singer 560

there should be a control to raise or lower the feed dogs, lower to stipple and high to sew normal. it sounds like you may have lowered them

SOURCE: Hi, have tried to use buttonhole feature on singer 4423. Dog feed teeth have dropped - won't come back up and the material isn't feeding though. Any help greatly appreciated.

Re: Reverse feed dogs on Singer 4423 Remove extension table so you can see switch on BACK of machine @ left side. Flip switch to raise feed dogs up. If machine actually sewing in reverse - check n Buttonhole adjustment. Reset it (located bottom right side machine) Jimmy

SOURCE: The feed dogs will not move the material

check the feeddogs & see if there in the up position, if there not move the lever or knob to the up position
if the lever is up then there is something wrong with the feeddogs & it needs to be serviced

I am a complete novice and have just bought a singer 2282 but presser foot so low I can't feed even the thinnest fabric. There does not appear to be a presser foot adjuster. Any ideas?

Do the feed dogs reach the fabric?

If no, I suspect the feed cover (see darning instructions) was installed prior to shipping. If the feed cover is in place, it will need to be removed.

Singer model no 9022 feeder feet does not move material thread bunges under material

Check that the stitch length is set high enough that the feed dogs will actually advance the fabric. Setting the stitch length too low will cause the machine to basically sew in place.

Also, check that the feed dogs have not been "dropped" to allow darning or free motion quilting. Dropping the feed dogs lowers them so they will not rise above the needleplate and will not grip nor move the fabric.

If your machine is mechanical (not computerized), it may need a good cleaning and oiling. If the old oil has solidified, it could be preventing the feed dogs from moving like they should.

Singer sewing machine 6233

have you checked your feed dogs are moving? have you dropped the feed dogs by accident? the feed dogs might need a drop of oil on the moving parts inside your machine.

I have a singer 543 the feed dogs won't move.

I suggest getting out your manual and looking up lower and raising the feed dogs. When the feed dogs are lowered they don't move. You could have lowered them without realising it.

I have a Singer Stylist 513 & I cannot get the feed dogs raised.

The model 513 Singer has two gears which operate the feeding mechanism. If one of these gears is broken, the machine will run except the feed dogs will not move. This is a very common problem with this model.
