Check oil level and cooling air flow past the cylinder. Are there foreign material like leaves in the air intake?

SOURCE: Coleman 5KW gen motor shuts down when A/C switch turned on

Sounds like a problem with the wiring of the outlets after the circuit breaksr. Take apart the outlet box and have a look for burned or broken wires, melted outlets, and/or small critters stuck in the wiring.
I recently had to repair a generator that had its voltage regulator taken out by a frog!

SOURCE: 1986 Yamaha Radian stops running after 20 minutes

Sounds to me like it could be a few things... pretty interesting that it runs and shuts down...sits for a little while then fires back up. Could be something as simple as a bad ground.. maybe it needs cleaned.. if the ground is making very little contact.. the bike would run bad, and because its direct current it has to flow. The metal in the motor frame etc will hold so much DC current.. but *** soon as it load up the bike would stop sparking. Let it sit for a while, DC trickles into the battery through the slight contact, bike fires back up. OR could be bad venting of your fuel tank, or a partial clog at the pet ****.. the first is pretty easy to check, open your fuel cap and start the bike..if it does the same thing then its not a vent problem. One thing that does happen on the Radian, is the reserve fuel screen inside the tank comes loose, and then everything inside the that has built up over the years either partially clogs the pet ****, or the hose, or both. Take the tank off, pull the pet **** off..if it still has two intact tubes with good screens..you probably don't have any junk in your line..but I would pull the line off and blow through it any way... it could be some type of blockage, when the bike sets the fuel seep through, but when it runs it eventually creates a vaccuum that stops the fuel flow. Those are my two first thoughts... good luck!!

YG650DE Yamaha generator. Fires up perfectly, then shuts down after a minute. Will fire up again, run about 1 minute then shut down. Same thing over and over. changed out gas and oil. Help please

Since most generators are seldom used, gas left in the carburetor gunks up and stops up the passages.
Take lots of pix of the assembly. Pull the carb, remove the bowl and spray carb cleaner in all the holes you see. Don't let it back spray into your eyes. Wear safety glasses. Some holes/orifices may need to have a soft wire passed thru them.
Next time you store your generator, drain the gas, run the generator til all the gas is out of the carb. If you can get to the bowl w/o removing the carb, pull the bowl and spray the bowl and underside of the carb w/carb cleaner and reassemble.

Valve sticks. Runs for less than a minute and then shuts down.

Ed,

We would love to help you out!

First, check the oil level is to the very top of the filler as these have an automatic shut off if the oil gets too low. They like to be filled to the very top of the filler hole. Try running it, if it still shuts down let us know and we will assign an Engineer to your case. :)

Make sure your oil to fuel ratio is correct. You cannot run it on gasoline alone.

Onan 2800 generator sops when a/c is turn on

While you didn't indicate the btus of the HVAC I assume it worked before? What you are describing sounds like the engine isn't making horsepwer. A 2800 is a small unit that a HVAC and some lights is about all it can stand. The HVAC takes about 6 x current to start it, than it does to run it. If this inrush is high and the generator engine isn't producing full HP then it will shut off and die on under frequency. I would recommend having and engine leakdown test done (not a compression test, as that doesn't tell the whole story. This will ensure all valves and rings are mechanincally in good shape, then try a basix tune up, plugs filters etc.

Hi I have a 2hp 4 gallon king Canada compressor. When I turn the unit on it runs fine, but after about 10min I really start to slow down (almost like its bogging down) then it just shuts off and the...

does the compressor build any pressure? if not what may be happening is it has a blockage somewhere before the air gets to the tanks and the unit is just getting so much pressure it that it just can't run anymore. that is what it sounds like to me. some compressors have regulators in them before the air gets to the tank and that may have failed.
if that is not the case the only other thing i can think of is the bearings are failing in the compressor and causing this. but in any case it would seem that the motor should be getting hot s any stress on the compressor unit transfers to the motor. also check this lik for a recall good luck on the repair

Yamaha 2000 run poorly at higher altitude

What elevation are you at? Start with simple things such as clean the air filter, fresh gas, clean/replace spark plug. Also check oil level most generators have a low oil shut off yours may be attempting to shut down

I am interested in a generator that can light a 3-bedroom hse and a chauff cutter

Your cutter machine may use more power than your whole house depending on the size of motor. A one horsepower motor 115v will use about 3000 watts to start and about 1000watts to run. To estimate how much power you need, add up all the watts that you will use at home and add to that estimated wattage of the cutter motor (motor will use 3x rated wattage to start plus loss of power thru the extension cord). Buy a generator that will give you needed power and still have a 25 percent reserve. If you need 2000 watts on a continued basis, the 2800 watt may be good, however I would be more comfortable with a 3500 watt if the price was right because of the cutter machine. I would consider converting the cutter to gas power and buy a smaller generator to save on gas since you will be most likely running the generator far longer to power the house. Good luck

I have a yamaha EF2400IS generator that starts fine, but when i shut it down and try to restart it hot it will not start up again until it cools down. Please help.

If it doesn't start but turns over ok. It may be a problem with the magneto / wiring or spark plugs. It seems as though this unit has no automatic shut down. I would try replacing the spark plugs BPR4ES NGK or equivalent and gap to .030, oil 5/30 or 10/30 will do takes less than 1 quart, & air filter (basic tune-up) if not performed in some time. Yamaha recommends every 20 hours. Then try again. Here is a link to the owner's manual. http://www.poweredgenerators.com/yamaha/manuals/ef2400is.pdf
