SOURCE: 42" Vizio - no picture no sound

If the TV goes in standby, then it is in protection mode.

Ensure also that the fault is not coming from a faulty receiver box sending
bad signal, check if you get same problem on DVD with no receiver box
connected.

Try first leaving the TV power cord unplugged for some times, let say one hour or so.

The flashing light indicates a diagnostic state called protection.
When the TV goes on protection there are only two possible causes.

1The internal circuits are jammed because of electrostatic charges accumulating on capacitors, or because of a wrong voltage read by the main chip on your monitor controller board. this started the protection circuit.

2 The protection circuit detected a wrong voltage or abroken contact, identified an internal fault and kicked in , starting the flashing light.

If you are in situation one, then the TV will reset just unplugging power cord for one or two hours, sometimes even minutes.

If you are in situation 2 , then there is an internal fault.

If under warranty contact the manufacturer ringing the number on the user manual

If you want to repair at your own expenses, just locate any good qualified repairer.

On LCD Pay particular attention at inverter and power board, power board can be inspected looking for bulged or leaking capacitors, then tested with a multimeter. The inverter is more difficult to test , there is need to read voltages, should be done by a tech. Also the LCD controller board can cause same problem

SOURCE: no picture power ups blacklights work no menu no

If you see the back light, then you should have 24vdc on the main power supply board which it gets the turn on command from the maun board. If you do have all those voltage, then it does sound like you need the new main board.

SOURCE: vizio VA 26 L HDTV10A black screen after on for 3

There remains only the fluorescent back light tube(s) or the inverter that supplies high voltage for it (them). If you had no warning flickering, I would look for the inverter board.

SOURCE: Vizio VW42L HDTV10A, Black screen name display on no sound nothing,VIZIO tech says suapects backlight bulbs, but why wouldn

If the backlights lamps are bad, you will not get picture but will still have sound. Lamps (est. life of 50k hours) are rarely goes out, its electronics that go out first. I do not think the person you talk too ever work on the LCD TV.
More liekly that the 12v (for sound) and the 24vdc (for backlights) power supply section is not working.

D65u-d2 black screen diagnosis

Hi,

I would have attempted a system software update first once the screen went black. I would also disconnect all accessories. Then, if still failing, I would schedule a repair with a tv repair shop because it's dangerous to deal with internal portions of the tv as a consumer.

Thank you.

Vizio E601i-A3 - Logo will show then go dim?!

It could be the main, or power supply board, or the LED backlights or if your set has it the backlight inverter board but I believe on this model it's part of the power board. 1st thing I'd check is the signal from the main telling the backlight inverter to turn on, you should see a pin marked Bl_On measure there to frame ground and see if you have around 3 volts with the set on. If you don't replace the main, if you do and I think you will it's either the backlight strips or the power board that's bad, if I was going to bet I'd say it's the backlights as they fail quite often on edge lit sets as yours is according to the model number

Vizio D65u-d2 Backlight not working after replacing 2 LED strips?

You should be able to replace just the bad LED strips however with as much work as it is to get the set apart and back together I always replace all them as other strips generally fail in time. Did they all light up after you replaced the bad ones before you put it back together? This model set has local dimming so servicing it is a bit more complex, you could have a bad backlight driver but that board seldom gives issues, also you could have main or power board issues as power for the backlight driver comes from the power board or you could have main issues as it's the signal from there that turns on each strip.

I have a weird problem: My TV's LED backlight pulses... it is generally off / very dim and periodically the LEDs pulse briefly to a reasonable intensity then fade back to dim every few seconds.

Could be a short in the strips test the strips In each row if you look at the row count the LEDs each require 2.8 dc volts add them up for each row example if you have 9 in the row you will need 25.2 volts dc to power test it .if you look at the right side of the strip you will see 3 dots a plus two minus use center minus as ground and plus for positive . If leds still flicker or dim or some don't light than theres a short within the led strips .

I have a vizio 701i-a3e. The sound works and the backlight works (light coming from the backside). The picture does not come on. Eg., the vizio start up screen does not come on, pressing the input nor menu...

I dont know how you could have a back light seen through the cabinet on the back and not see the picture. The unit uses LED backlights and just one LED can cause the power supply to sense the current change and not power the display. Replacement LED strips are about 75 USD

Looks like your screen backlights are not working. Check for faulty electrolytic capacitors on the power board and the backlight drive board. You may have to change the backlight drive board.

I Have a vizio E320I-AO 32" TV. The back light and sound have gone. What could be causing the LED and sound to go bad?

Back - light problem. Check and replace damaged component/s at its back-light inverter board, or replace this board as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. It will be best to replace the inverter board as card basis. http://electro-medical.blogspot.com/
To some model sets; especially LED back-lighted types; the back-light inverter circuit will be part of the main power supply board [SMPS]. In such cases, the power supply board might need replacement. To some models sets, the back-light inverter and SMPS section circuit will be integrated at its main board itself. If so; the main board should be replaced. To some models of sets, all these section circuit will be integrated at its main board. If this is the case, you have to replace the main board.
