SOURCE: bobbin thread getting jammed

kyoungblood4
Are you making sure that your pressure foot is up when you thread the upper thread? If it isn't then your thread is not seating correctly in the tension disks. It will then be loose and make a birds nest(mess) under what you are trying to sew. The other thing to check is which way you are putting the bobbin into the bobbin case, different machines do it different ways. Some want the thread to come out of the case in the same direction as the slot on the case and some want it to come off in the opposite direction.

Guest,
Probably when your son broke the needle he knocked it out of time. You will need to have a sewing machine technician to repair that.

Hope this has been helpful for you bothl Liz M

SOURCE: needle keeps breaking the top thread...

In general, there are three main causes for this...
wrong needles (Singer), low quality thread (dual duty or all purpose), incorrect threading. Be sure to thread the needle from front to back.

SOURCE: Elna SU missing stiches and breaking thread

it sounds like the needle hook timing is out. You need to get the needle in the lowest position and measure the gap from the needle to the hook point on the bobbin shuttle. It should be 1/4". You will need to remove the foot and foot plate to be able to see. I use a 1/4" drill bit as a gauge. If you need to adjust it, you will need to remove the free arm cover to the right of the foot and loosen the 2 allen head screws that hold the drive gear. Adjust the gap, tighten the screws and retry. Usually if the needle catches the thread to early, it will make a bad stitch and the upper thread will break. If it catches to late, it will make thread loops and the machine will skip stitches. Good luck, these are a good machine and worth fixing. Phil

SOURCE: needles keep breaking & bobbing wont feed thru

First try taking your bobbin case right out of the machine (not sure if this model has a top loading or front loading bobbin, but your manual will help you here) and floss out the tension slot with a piece of strong thread. Don't use waxed dental floss, but non-waxed would work okay. (The bobbin case is the piece that the bobbin sits in.) Look around while you have the machine open and remove any fluff and thread you can see - TURN MACHINE OFF BEFORE DOING THIS! Replace bobbin case. Replace bobbin and make sure it "clicks" into the tension slot.

Then unthread the top of the machine, clean the tension disks by passing a folded dollar bill (or any paper money, depends on what country you are in) through the disks in the direction you thread the machine. Do this several times. Re-thread making sure you follow the correct thread path.

Make sure the needle plate is on firmly.

If after all that it still won't work, I'm sorry to say that it sounds like you have a misaligned needle bar. This commonly happens after you have a major thread snaffoo and needle breakage. The needle gets caught in the thread knot, pulls to the side and breaks but if it gets seriously caught it can pull the needle bar out of place. You cannot put the needle bar back in place yourself - it's a job for the workshop. Don't sew on your machine until it is fixed. The noise you are hearing is likely to be the needle striking against the needle plate or even the bobbin. Your timing will probably need re-setting too and this needs to be done by a qualified technician.

If you really need to sew before you can get your machine into the workshop, and if you can move the needle position on your machine by pressing a "sideways" button of some sort, you could try to get the needle in the centre yourself using this feature. This will not help if it is the timing that is the major problem.

My elna 2004 tread keeps on breaking, what can be the cause of it

Can be a variety of reasons. Firstly, is it a Quality thread? Cheap thread can be inconsistent in strength and also creates more 'dust'. Secondly, check the thread path for the top thread and also the bobbin thread. Reset tensions. Third, have you broken a needle lately - may have created a small burr on the bobbin / shuttle. Fourth, change the needle - is it the correct type and size for what you are sewing?
Hope that helps!

Thread breaking on elna lotus tsp

When it stitches, does appear the top thread is tighter and pulling the bobbin thread up? Pay attention to what is happening before the thread breaks. Sew slowly and manually turn the handwheel. Where does it break? What are the symptoms before it breaks? Does it fray/shred at the needle eye? (The thread is not advancing through the needle eye properly and is actually being shredded, could be the needle has a sharp spot or the needle eye is too small for the thread. Coarse fabric will also shred thread.) Do you notice the top thread getting tighter and tighter and then finally popping? (The thread is being held back somewhere in the thread path {misthreading'--happens to me when it gets wrapped around the spool pin or a thread guide.)

Suggest removing the top thread completely from the machine. Install a brand new needle that is the appropriate size and type for the thread and fabric. Remember to ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot and rethread from the beginning. Verify the thread path is correct. Adjust the top tension until the top and bobbin threads meet in the middle of the fabric.

Sewing Machine Problem 1 Thread Breakage

If the top thread is not picking up the bobbin thread, it's possible the machine has been knocked out of time. Did the needle hit something or break recently? You can search for sewing machine timing or take it for service.

Why does the needle thread keeps on breaking on my elna envision 9008

There could be several reasons for thread breaking.

1) Incorrect threading. A guide has been missed or the thread path is incorrect. Consult the owner's manual. Remove all the thread and rethread from the beginning.
2) Tension is too tight. Tension setting standard is around the midway point between high & low number. Also check that the bobbin tension has not been set too tight so upper thread is being pulled to the underside of the fabric. Make sure the bobbin thread is wound smoothly on the bobbin--try a different bobbin. To insure the thread is seated completely in the tension disk, Always Raise the Presser Foot when threading the machine.
3) Install a brand new needle. Make sure the needle size/type are compatible with the thread and fabric.
All About Needles
4) There could be burr or nick somewhere that is catching the thread. Make sure the thread is not hanging up on the slit of the thread spool. Sometimes the thread will loop around the thread spool causing thread breakage. Check the needle plate and the bobbin area. If there is a small nick, it usually can be gently smoothed with a fine emery board. If not, then a technician's assistance or a replacement part may be required.
5) Void old or bargain bin threads. Spend a little extra for good quality sewing thread and increase the chance of sewing success.

When I am monogramming with my Elna 8600, the thread continually breaks, what could be the problem?

The top thread breaks
1. the needle thread is not threaded properly
2. The needle thread tension is to tight
3. The needle is bent or blunt
4. The needle is incorrectly inserted
5. The needle thread & the bobbin thread are not set under the presser foot when starting to sew
6. the threads were not drawn to the rear after sewing
7. The thread is either to heavy or to fine for the needle
8. Try a different spool or cone of thread

Having thread breakage probelm and also can't track down the correct bobbin to use on the Elna 2005

have you got the manual for this machine? You can download one from here: http://www.ps2netdrivers.net/manual/elna.2005/

It is a front loading bobbin and removabel bobbin case so I think the bobbin is a plastic "Class 15" - like this http://www.sewingpartsonline.com/bobbins-class-15-plastic-10-pack.aspx

Thread breaking could be caused several factors such as the thread actually being old and brittle, the needle or needle plate having burrs and catching the thread, incorrect threading, bobbin in bobbin case the wrong way, or top tension discs playing up/too tight or thread catching somewhere in the threading path.

I'd suggest that you trouble shoot this and refer to the manual for cleaning instructions. If you can access them clean between the tension discs (turn tension down to zero and "floss" between the by running the selvage edge of a piece of clean cotton scrap through the discs to remove any lint/dye buildup). Wind a fresh bobbin and rethread referring to the manual to ensure the bobbin is turning the right way. New needle and rethread top thread refering to threading diagram. Tension on 5 and test sew again.

If you are still having problems, then the machine may benefit from a service by your local Elna dealer, a good service and clean at least every 2 years is recommended.

Try a new needle, making sure it is put in properly. A bent needle can break thread. Make sure top tension is set properly.
