I have a 55 inch sharp smartTV Aquoa LC-55UB30U it was working fine now when i put it on it is a black screen with the word Sharp across it . after less than a minute it shuts off .can you assist?

It has a separate input for sound you'll need a dual 3.5 mm stereo jack

Check all source is same or not
Try factory reset.

If the line is black the display panel may be the issue. This is the entire screen unit and fatal from a cost point of view.

I have a similar problem using an older 20" flat screen standard definition TV. (not High Def). I can see a little of the picture but more than 2/3 is covered by the black. My model is LC-20SH7U.

Is closed caption turned on? (and the channel doesn't have any captions) Turn it off.

Try different source like VCR, DVD, or satellite to see if it is the source thats bad.  Check to see all your connections are on good and tight.  If still no luck, then your tele is fu.k.d and you got bad LCD crystals or faulty inverter.  Take the thing back to the store for exchange or refund if your within your 30 day window.  Call the manufacturer if your within your 1 year window.
