Check the battery with your multimeter. If it reads below 36 volts (or whatever the cutoff point is) it may be damaged. But before you run off and buy a new one, use the multimeter to check the voltage from the charger.

Or borrow a good battery and see how your charger behaves.

that way, you can identify the cause of the problem

SOURCE: Ryobi 18V lithium battery won't charge

Hi, Thanks for getting back to me. The yellow and blinking red indicate a defective cell. Since it has lithium cells and is that new any repair to it would be a waste of your time. Ryobi tools purchased in 2008 have a 2 year warranty. I am guessing you probably got it at a home depot and you should return it under the warranty. All new Ryobi tools have a three year warranty. Good Luck! and Thanks for using fixya!

SOURCE: nokia 6500 classic charging problems

I have had exactly the same problem, and have replaced both the charger and the battery.

I think the problem lies in the contacts between the charger and the bayonet and the battery..
Soooo
I put a couple of peices of folded paper behind the battery, making a very very snug fit.

then, (this is a bit fiddly)
i carefully folded a slim peice of paper to wedge behind the charger pin and the back of the bayonet, so the pin is pushing against the front of the bayonet.
( to do this, position the paper over the pin and push into the socket at the same time.)

works like a treat :)
if you had exactly the same problem, it will be due to the charger wobbling around about the socket.

this ensures a tight fit and means it maintains contact all the time.

good luck, and i hope you haven't started to tear your hair out quite yet.

SOURCE: Ryobi p111 charger -- light stays red

My charger do the same thing. I talked with the service people at Ryobi who said that the red led never goes out no matter how long you charge it. They suggested just charge it for 12 hours and then disconnect. Pretty dumb system, but that's apparently the way it is.

SOURCE: charger light blinks red never

Worx has had issues with their chargers and their batteries. They don't seem to last as long as the machine does. A simple voltmeter test of the charger and any battery will tell the story. The charger's output rating should be printed on it and the battery also. Touch test leads from voltmeter to the two and check.

Why is the green light blinking on the Ryobi charger with the battery in it

My Ryobi 18V One+ charger blinks green while it's charging. When the battery is fully charged, the LED goes to a solid green. However, one battery recently had a faulty cell. After several hours on the charger, the green and red LEDs both were blinking. That indicated that the battery failed late in the charging sequence. It didn't fail the initial testing by the charger. The other battery I charged that day charged fine.

The extended capacity batteries can take 12 hours to charge in my experience. The regular batteries take less time. The charge time will depend on the battery chemistry(The older NiCd batteries take longer to charge then the Lithium batteries.)

I hope this helps. Assuming you aren't dealing with a cold or hot battery or charging environment, if you have any suspicion about a faulty battery, replace it.

(Note: I have a 12V drill as well. Those batteries takes longer to charge for the same relative capacity than the 18V NiCd batteries.)

Ryobi 40V 2.6A battery. When I put it on the charger the charger blinks green for about 10 minutes and then goes to solid green. However, after 5 minutes of use my Ryobi trimmer dies. I repeat the...

From your description the battery is probably faulty. If the batteries are still quite young it is possibly just one cell and while Ryobi don't refurbish batteries there are companies dotted around that do.

If it is a nicad battery, Ryobi told me just a couple of days ago they no longer supply nicad replacements and expect everyone to upgrade to lithium, which means also buying a charger.

Ryobi 40v trimmer stops working with 1/2 charge left on battery

Battery is weak. Those lights are really useless...more a marketing gimmick. It almost sounds like it developed a memory...this happens when certain types of batteries are not fully discharged before being placed on the charger. Replace the battery and make sure to follow charging directions for that particular type of battery

9.6 volt battery charger how do I know when my battery is charge the red light stays on all the time

Normally, the charger will blink when the battery is being charged and go to solid light when it is fully charged. If you show a full charge and still experience short battery life, your batteries are going bad.

Ryobi lithium batteries won't take charge

For others with the same problem (flashing red light won't go off)...make sure you FIRMLY PUSH the battery down onto the charger and engage the latches. Simply resting the battery on the charger will not work.
