My norton 'all-in-one security' 2009 will not run a quick scan - it appears to be scanning but the message at bottom of screen informing me how many files, etc, have been scanned just stays at zero - although it seems to be working in ''real time''. This problem began after i ran quick scan a few days ago and, as it did not appear to be scanning at all i cancelled the scan after an hour (quick scan normally takes a few minutes) and ever since i have had the problem. I uninstalled the programme and reinstalled it using the original product disc but the problem persists.Any ideas?My laptop has Windows Vista Basic.

Windows Vista has a very decent firewall. Better than norton. The only way to contact a virus is by inviting that virus onto your PC. You would do this by downloading an unknown file from an un-reliable source on the internet i.e nasty **** stuff which claims to be free. Norton Internet security is a rip off. Your machine will run better & just as secure without it. The world needs to wake up to the computer virus conspiracy. For personal computers AV software is pointless.

I want norton antivirus free pl help

Download from http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Utilities/Anti-Virus_Utilities/Norton_Antivirus_Download.html and install it on your PC.

1 Insert the CD into the CD-ROM drive.

2 When the opening screen appears, click Install Norton Internet Security or Install Norton Personal Firewall.

3 In the Scan for Viruses dialog box, do one of the following:

* If you have reason to believe your computer is infected, click Yes to scan your computer for viruses.
* If you have recently scanned for viruses and you are not infected, you may skip the scan and click Next.

4 Read the License Agreement, and then click I accept the License Agreement.
If you decline the License Agreement, you cannot continue with the installation.

5 Click Next.

6 Type the product key for activation.
For more information on activating your program, read the document Activating your product.

7 Click Next.

8 Select one of the following installation types:

* Install Now
Install using the most common settings. This is the best choice for most users.
* Custom
View an additional window that will allow you to install without accounts and Parental Control. If you do not install these features, you will have to use Add/Remove Programs in the Windows Control Panel to create accounts or use Parental Control.

9 Click Next.

10 Review the information on the screen and then click Next to start the installation.
The installation window displays installation progress. Depending upon the speed of your computer, this may take a few minutes.

11 After the installation has completed, click Next.

12 Click Restart Now, then click Finish to complete the installation.

13 After restarting your computer, skip to the next section for post-installation instructions, "Running the Configuration Wizard".

Manual scanning not working

I think you are having the problem with schedule scanning

Create a new task in Control panel and add the Nav file to the scan and schedule the time

If you are unable to run the Quick scan or comprehensive scan
Download and run the free upgrade Norton Anti virus 2010
you can activate Nav10 with your existing product key
go to this link www.norton.com/nav10 to download Norton Anti virus 2010

I keep getting my computer locked up and the message I am getting is: Norton Antiviris is performing a background task: Full system scan in progress! But it locks my computer up for hours?

scan your computer with malwarebytes, then restart and scan with spybot search and destroy.

SPEAKING WITH MY EXPERIENCE: Either try Security Essentials from Microsoft OR Avast. There’s free software out there to try.

Helpful Free Software below Read On.

FREE SPYWARE
Download Spybot Search & Destroy. Restart computer, then run Spybot to see what spyware comes up, AND DELET IT.

FYI---Virus Protection-- 2 programs of virus protection will conflict with each other and will actually cancel out the protection. SO just download one.

Running Spybot Search & Destroy with EITHER Avast or Avg (great Free virus protection programs ) will keep a computer in good working condition. FREE

HERE ARE SOME LINKS, THAT WOULD BE BETTER:

There are alot of $ anti-virus and Internet security programs out there,

ie: Norton, McAfee, Panda, Bitdefender. If you would like to pay $ then get ***Kaspersky***-- 2010 ,

I feel that is the best for your money.

"Project1 has stopped working"

The issue definitely is associated with Norton. I have Norton Internet 2009. To get rid of the error, the following needs to be done.
* Right Click on the Norton Protection Center Icon from the system tray
* Select Norton Internet Security
* Click Settings
* Under Basic Security, click Auto-Protect
* Click Configure
* Under Real-Time Protection, take the checkmark off "Turn on scanning for Micorsoft Office documents"

Full system scan not getting completed

Open NIS and run LiveUpdate. Keep re-running LiveUpdate until it says that there are no more updates. Reboot the system if prompted to do so (you may want to reboot even if it doesn't say it is required, just to be sure everything got replaced properly). Open NIS again, select Tasks and run a Full System Scan. The error message should not appear again.

Which is best internet security suite

Norton Internet Security 2009 is an all around good choice. The 2009 version stays idle until your computer goes idle then it kicks in doing the security scans, etc. For a few dollars more you can get Norton 360 which does your Internet security as well as routine PC maintenance.
