The batteries inside the small hand held are NOT consumer replaceable. They are all soldered in place. If you are a handy with a soldering iron, you can replace the batteries yourself. I did and my Pronto 2-1 runs like new. I had it for about a year then it gradually lost its holding charge. I would only get about 2 minutes before it stopped.
Battery Replacement. First you will need new batteries. The batteries for the Pronto 2-1 are called NiMh 4/5 Sub C 2000mAh w/ TABS and can be purchased at Batteryjunction.com. You will need 8 of them. I paid a total of about $30 shipped. Next. Remove the 4 small screws holding the unit together. Once you have it apart you can get an idea of what is ahead. It took me about 45 minutes to cut out the old batteries and replace with new ones. Here are some helpful tricks. Use a knife to cut off the tab jacket about ¼ inch from the ends on all of the new batteries. Use a pair of needle nose pliers and tear off the battery tabs right off the OLD battery bodies. Replace the batteries ONE AT A TIME except for the group of 4 in the handle. The goal here is to solder the new battery tabs to the OLD battery tabs. This is much easier soldering tabs together than stripping and soldering the wires. REPLACE the batteries exactly how you see them. Add electrical tape where appropriate. Be careful when packaging the batteries back in place. I mentioned replace the batteries one at a time because this will allow you to verify your soldering. Press the on button and you should get the blower going. If not, you have a bad solder joint. Anyway, good luck. Jeff

Well it has been about a year since I replaced the batteries in my electrolux and the run time is low. Tried looking to lithium batteries in the 4/5 Sub C size and did not have any luck. Looks like I will be repeating the soldering operation I did a year ago.

You cant get just a battery. You have to replace your entire hand held part. There was also a recall on this model so you may want to call electrolux and make sure ur unit hasnt been recalled

I am disappointed in the Electrolux brand for making this basically a disposable vacuum! The price was higher than other brands, but I didn't get higher quality.

B&D Dustbuster model CHV1400 TYPE 1 not working (no recharge). Does it pay to replace battery or not? If yes, how do I open it up, and how do I replace battery? Price? Where do I buy it?

Sorry to say but the battery pack is 3/4 the price of a newer dust buster. The other solution is the have some one rebuild it. But I would buy a new one. Don't waste you time.

After the dc16 is charged, I try using it but it only works for about 30 seconds and then it stops. I've had the vaccum for about 3 years. I need a solutions. Could it be the battery?

Almost certainly the battery. 3 years is pretty good for those batteries. Normally batteries can be changed by suitably "interested" people, but I don't know about that specific model. Check out the replacement price of the whole thing compared to the replacement price of just the battery before you jump in though.

Fully charged, runs 2 minutes and stops

You have dead nimh (nickle metal hydride) batteries2_bing.gif.
You will need a replacement. You can test for this by removing the battery and holding the power button for 15 seconds. This will restart the charging cycle as if the battery were new. Try Ebay for better pricing.
