The 7462 and the related machines can do this when the buttonhole lever is down. This lever is behind the needle bar on the back of the sewing machine. Make sure this lever is fully up by pushing it with your finger. Then use the hand wheel to bring the needle to the highest position in its travel path. Make sure that the bobbin winding spindle is to the far left position. The manual is available from Singer. The current link to the manual is https://res.cloudinary.com/singer-sewing/image/upload/fl_attachment/Singer-Website-Library/outdated_product/SINGER_7462_Sewing_Machine.pdf . See page 7 to see the button hole lever position. It's labeled 17 on the diagram of the back of the machine.
If the problem persists, you may have a problem with the hardware for the bobbin winder. The spindle has to lock into position against parts under the machine cover. Unfortunately, my usual sources for sewing machine parts don't have parts for the bobbin winder. Thus you may have problems finding the parts even from a sewing machine repair technician. (I recommend seeing a technician to repair these electronic machines unless you are trained to handle electrical systems.) If the problem isn't the winding mechanism, then it's the control board or wiring that is probably at fault.
The instructions do not specify how to disable the needlebar while winding a bobbin. Assume that inserting the bobbin on the winding shaft and and pushing the shaft to the right disables the needlebar.
Your machine needs to go to dealer to rectify the problem. Your machine sensors are telling the machine that the needle bar is not idle while winding the bobbin and the flashing lights is a warning message. Nothing serious and your dealer should be able to fix it in 30 minutes. You need to remove the covers and hand wheel, so best to leave it to the experts
Turn the machine back on, slide the bobbin winder all the way over to the left, and push the reverse sewing button 3 times. That should reset the machine.
Ok, this is pretty common. Disengage the machine (as if you were winding a bobbin) run the machine at high speed for 5 minutes. The motor is dirty and this will clean it out. You should hear the pitch of the motor change as the minutes go by.
To learn how to wind the bobbin on top and select the correct needle, I suggest you to order the following product:

Good luck.
Sounds like there is thread around the bobbin winder shaft and the machine is unable to continue winding, needs stripping and looking at. This is not something you should attempt yourself unless you know what you are doing. A reasonable sewing machine tech should be able to sort it out in a few minutes.
Had the same problem as mommyb2 - it was the bobbin spindel was in the wrong position. Push bobbin spindel to the left and it works for sewing.
Have the same problem winding my first bobbin - pushed spindel to the right to engage bobbin fuction and the machine locks up and wont wind the bobbin. Irig did you bring it in for repair? I'm thinking its broke - which **** as mine is a brand new machine
