Mostly both mobile and standard cordless phones will work briefly when the batteries have been on charge quite a short while. The longer they are left on charge the longer they will work for.

The standard cordless phone charges at a very slow rate because it spends most of it's life sitting on the charging cradle but a mobile phone charges much quicker in order for the phone to be more useful, consequently once charging is well underway a mobile phone can be used as long as the charger is left plugged in.

With a new phone and batteries it is better for the batteries to be left alone to fully charge before use. The first full charge usually doesn't last as long as specified but after the batteries have been discharged and charged a few times the full capacity should be achieved.

Usually you need to wait about 15 hours for the new phone batteries to charge up.

How long should my first and consequent charging times be?

Depends on what battery you are charging. For electronic devices like phones, tablets and camera's 3 to 4 hours should be enough. But be aware the first 2 or 3 charges can be used in a short time, so prepare to charge soon. After the 3th charge the battery should work normal. Wait till the charger indicates the battery is charged. Depends on whet device and what charger you are using.

Long live battery of your Smartphones.

Don't charge your smartphone to 100% level.
Charge your phone's battery till 90%.
And don't wait for fully discharge of battery, whenever battery level go below 40% ,if possible charge your phone till 90%.

My HTC mobile phone drains its battery too fast. I have to charge it every hour. This phone is brand new - only five days old.

turn the phone on and let it charge completelty. Then go and shut the phone off. Reboot the phone in CMV which is dos for phones. (you can do this bypushing a combination of buttons usually power, volume down and home check to see what yours is) go through the menus and look for Wipe Battery stats. IF YOU DO NOT SEE IT go back to the main menu and reboot phone. Wait for phone to fully charge again and shut it off. Now while it is off keep plugging the phone in till it says it is fully charged. Then unplug the phone wait ten-15 seconds and plug back in until it reads 100% when you plug your charger in

My huawei ascend m860 wont charge. when i plug in the charger nothing happens. it was working fine yesterday and last night it wouldnt charge up. today i bought a new phone charger and it still wouldnt...

This happened to me too, you have to take your phone back to who you bought it from so they can repair it. Its the chip inside the phone that is bad. Not the charger.

Base phone handset #1 holding charge

The base unit should not need a charge. It should be powered by the plug in adapter. It may have a battery to keep operation for a short time in a power outage. The adapter may be loose, the adapter could be broken or the plug in the phone may be broken.
