It's been years since I have rebuilt a clutch master, since they have gotten so cheap, but if you really want to do this, first tear down the unit and lay all parts out in order to aid in reassembly. Next, inspect the bore of the unit to see how bad it is. It badly scratched or pitted, stop and replace the entire unit. If it looks ok, hone the bore with a hone tool using clean brake fluid, clean with more clean fluid, and install new parts using assembly lube. Bench bleed, then install and bleed the system.

SOURCE: clutch cylinder inside car is it broke

you have to bleed the air out of it. If there is not fluid leaking from the master cylinder on the firewall.it can leak on the inside of car or the out side if the master cylinder is bad.first make sure the reservoir stays full then open the bleeder on slave cylinder. this is called gravity bleeding. once fluid comes out, tighten bleeder, pump pedal one time loosen bleeder while holding clutch pedal down and then tighten. do this repeatedly until no air comes out. you can pump pedal several times, then hold and bleed however you like but I have better luck with individual pumps. just make sure that the lines hooked to slave cylinder are tight and there are no air leaks. and that the line does not go below the slave cylinder because sometimes air gets trapped in the lowest part of system.

SOURCE: hilux clutch master cylinder seals

The seals face towards the hydraulic side. Install with the wide side of the seal towards the hydraulic line. Note: it will not bleed like a brake system. Fill the resivoir and open the slave bleeder and gravity bleed, that will get you about 90%. Then get somebody to step on the pedal while you ,now, bleed it like a brake system. Good Luck!.

SOURCE: JUST INSTALLED NEW CLUTCH, SLAVE

The slave should not leak. Either it is defective, or there is a mechanical problem with the clutch pressure plate or throwout bearing, and the slave it over extending.

Cant find clutch master cylinder Subaru outback impreza sport 1997.

On most cars the clutch master cylinder is generally mounted to the firewall next to the brake master cylinder, HOWEVER quite a number of manual transmissions have cable operated clutches, and if I remember correctly Subaru was one of them.
