Try this to have the printer auto-sense the size of the labels:
1. Make sure that printer power is off.
2. Press and hold the feed button.
3. Turn printer power on.
4. When the status light blinks, release
the feed button.
5. The printer advances the media to
measure and verify the length of
individual labels or tags. The printer
then prints a status summary and
remains in diagnostic dump mode.
6. To begin normal operation, tap the
feed button. The printer prints "out of
DUMP" and advances a label.
SOURCE: lost my manual for a president choice slow cooker,
Someone gave me a president's choice slow cooker that doesn't have a manual either. I was going to throw it out, but got it to work. I think the 3 is high level. I'm just going over to Loblaws to look at their manual.

One of your limits is not working or not wired up. An easy way to check the limits - Water pressure switch, Hi limits, air pressure switch all of which have 2 wires going to them. Unplug one item and connect the 2 wires together ( paper clip works fine ) Then retest, if problem does not go away remove paper clip and reconnect wires and move to the next limit. The limits are located in the black plastic header. Always make sure water is flowing through the heater at all times while checking the limits.

Need to know what buttons your topside control has... depending on the model, some have a mode button which you press and release and then immediately press the temp up or down, to select SL for sleep (no heat), ST for standard (heat as needed) or EC for Economy (only heat during filtration). If the mode button is not present, and you have a single temp button and light button, try pressing and releasing temp and then immediately pressing light button, repeat until choice appears, then wait, it will hold last displayed mode.

Without looking at the monitor to confirm this, I suspect you have failing capacitors which power the HT circuit, simply, the power needed to light the display, is leaking to earth, capacitors have lost the ability to store the charge necessary to illuminate the screen, which is why it is working erratically.
You need to get this checked out by a TV technician.
