OTR Samsung Microwave fan comes on with no reason. Any way to fix it?

  • Diana Heil Apr 15, 2015

No, I neither used the stove nor the microwave before the fan turned on by itself.

Does this happen while you are cooking on the range burners under the control panel?? These type microwaves have a heat sensor built into them in the area of the control panel bottom. If the microwave control gets too hot from cooking on the stove below it the heat sensor will turn the fan on to keep the control panel from getting heat damage. The fan should go off after everything cools off.

No cooking either on stove or in micro prior to fan turning on by itself.

Then you have a problem with the main control board. There are relays mounted on it for different parts of the micro operation such as light, fan, turntable, etc. main board is located behind and usually attached to the control panel. Depending on the age and what you paid for the microwave it may not be cost effective.

It is still under warranty. I called them and they will repair it at no cost. Thanks for your advice.

I should have suggested that but assumed it was out of warranty.

SOURCE: samsung otr microwave vent quit working

Since it's less than one year old, it would be fully covered under warranty. I'd suggest contacting the manufacturer to get it fixed free.

SOURCE: where is the fuse located on the samsung smh9187

There are 2 screws on top that release the top vent. Under this is a single screw that releases the front control panel. Behind the control panel are 2 fuses. Mine are 20 amp. I'm heading to radioshack now to replace the one that is blown. Lowes has them but I have found Radioshack to be a little cheaper. Lowes use to, but they found they can charge 5 times what they are worth.

Samsung OTR Microwave, Model# ME179KFETSR, convection fan turns on by itself. If I remove the mounting bolt, the fan turns off. What can be the cause to this?

The screw might be hitting a live wire in the wall which is very dangerous! Make sure there are no live wires where the mounting goes.

How to get to OTR Samsung microwave model ME21F606MJT FUSE?

The most common location for a fuse on an OTR unit is behind the control panel. If you remove the control panel, you should see it. Another common location for the fuse would be near where the power cord enters the cabinet.

Spontaneously stops working and then comes on after 5 minutes. Why?

Sounds like the magnetron is overheating. There is an automatically-resetable thermal circuit breaker attached to the magnetron. Most likely your problem is caused by either a cooling fan that is not running, or is running too slow (caused by gummed-up bearings). In some over-the-range (OTR) microwave ovens, the exhaust fan is run at a slow speed to cool the magnetron, and if it's bearings get gummed up, it won't run on the slow speed. But if it's a new OTR microwave, then the exhaust fan may be pointing the wrong way. (It is rotatable, depending on the installation). For example, if it is pointing up, but you don't have an exhaust vent over the microwave, then the air has nowhere to go, and the magnetron will overheat.

Whirlpool OTR microwave no oven 'fan'

FIRST ,,MICROWAVE OVENS ARE REALLY SAFTY MINDED AND THATS A GOOD THING....THERE ARE USUALLY THREE DOOR SWITHCES NEXT THE KEYBOARD--THE ONE ON TOP AND THE ONE ON BOTTOM ARE PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SWITCHES,,YOUR PROBLEM SOUNDS LIKE ONE OF THESE IS NOT MAKING CONNECTION..YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO PRESS 'DOWN" WITH A LITTLE PRESSURE ON THE DOOR AFTER CLOSING TO SEE IF THE FAN WILL START,,,IF YOU NOTICE --THERE ARE 2 LATCHES(HOOKS) COMING OUT OF THE DOOR,,WHEN THE DOOR IS CLOSED,THOSE LATCHES ARE SPRING LOADED AND MAKE CONTACT ON THOSE SAFTY SWITCHES....THIS IS NOT A CUSTOMER REPAIR--MICRO'S ARE JUST TO DANGEROUS WHEN YOU TAKE THE COVER OFF--IF THIS DOES BRING THE FAN BACK ON--YOU GOT A BAD DOOR SWITCH AND SHOULD BE A REASONABLE REPAIR
THE OTHER SOLUTION STILL WOULD BE A CONNECTION PROBLEM ON THE KEYBOARD ITSELF-THE WIRES JUST PLUG ON THE CIRCUIT BOARD BEHIND THE KEYBOARD---STILL A EASY REPAIR--GOOD LUCK TUNICA
