Why is my sony tv going to standby and blinks 8 times

How many times this standby/power light blinks at one time switch ON? Count it carefully. These blinks are fault indication, and known as blinking codes. From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON; you can get an idea about the faulty circuit stage inside the TV. This will make repair easy. Blinking of standby light are fault indications. How many times the standby light blinks at a time. Count it, and inform me.

In standby mode (red led on/after the led stops from blinking), press "Display", "5", Volume (-)", "Power on" on the remote control in sequence, self diagnostic screen will be display, let me know the what is on the screen to diagnose where the fault came from.

4 times blink error shows that any FAN is not running in TV as there are 4 fans in this TV.
Please check fan connectors and make sure all are plugged securely.

there is in-line fuse that blowes,caused by the fan vents being restricted (smoking can be a big facter) the vents should vacumed a couple times a month. you will need to have it seviced (parts and labor cost me 270$

According to the service manual if the red light is blinking then the TV may need to be service. Since your TV is less then a year old, still under manufacturers warranty.
I would suggest to contact Sony to ask them for the nearest authorized service center to have the tv repair.

I do not believe the set is too far gone. The standby light blinks codes up to 7. If the standby light blinks more than 7 times it usually means that there is a short on the clock or data line. There are several small zener diodes connected to the clock and data lines in a couple of different places on the main board. Many times I have seen one of the zener diodes become very leaky, usually along the back of the board, loading down the clock or data line which produces the symptoms you are seeing. If you have no experience locating shorted zener diodes and unsoldering and soldering small parts, allow a qualified tech to service the set for you.
