The picture exceeds the size of the screen and the outside of the picture is missing

If a standard set and not a LCD etc it has a picture tube, width is a product of the high voltage circuit in that set---this is called the deflection circuit----deflects the picture top to bottom and also left to right, most likely a bad cap or if a wave like motion can be seen in the picture maybe power supply but that is rare.

Not knowing the age, size or value of the set if it is over 5 years old or the screen size is under 32 inches just replace it.

If no major part is bad the repair could exceed 100 dollars.

Adjust the Aspect ratio. The manual will tell you how.

File size of photos are limited to 2k x 3k ish. If files exceed the max size you get a blank photo with a question mark in the middle of it..

If you are also using a Cable Box, make sure that the zoom selection, (Format) ,on the Cable Box remote is set properly. Especially if the TV Remotes Aspect Ratio is set to a Wide Format.

Try using the format or picture size button on the remote. You should have different choises of picture sizes to choose from.

It sounds like you have a defective unit. If it was purchased in the last year there should be no cost in having Best Buy repair this for you. Simply return it to the store and they will send it out for repair. If you have exceeded this 1 year warranty they can usually still have the unit repair at a minimal cost.

there are only normally 4 options for picture size, 4:3, 16:9, 16:9 zoom and auto, unless you are using High definition. Any other settings should be found in your cable reciever box as the picture size can be altered in its settings also.

Did you try chaging the aspect ratio in the setup menus yet?
