Philips 46PP9302 46in TV. power light flashes.

Those blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices. http://homenol.blogspot.com/ http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ If blinks continue without any pause, the main board is faulty. Search the site by type in the "brand name" to your device, [Exclude the model number] in the "Search box at the top right of the display window of the Homepage" to get gathered related posts. Counting the number of blinks to Philips TVs is entirely different to that of other brand TVs. It is not a direct count procedure. The site have details about how to count the number of LED blinks [Fault Codes] to Philips brand TVs are given; along with details of the faulty circuit location.

Colors don't line up

Your TV most likely has one or more possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Solution for Video looking whiteish, dull, or too red

Below are two of the most common problems encountered with projection TV sets.

Problem #1 - CONVERGENCE PROBLEM

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on Projection TV sets and a fairly simple DIY fix.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on - TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a solution

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.

This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you know what you are doing. If you have never done this before we would advise calling a shop or if you want to do it yourself get a complete kit with instructions and support from TvRepairKits.com

Their kits include a step by step instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, thermal paste, email/phone support, etc.

CRT fluid

The liquid is called Glycol and is very toxic.Usually either it leaks or becomes contaminated with bacteria--no joke. The easy way to see if contaminated is with set on and rear cover removed CAREFULLY LOOK into each of the 3 lens.Do not do anything dangerous--just look into each lens with set on--you likely will find clear picture in red, and green and blue (or any one will look like a floodlight if the Glycol is bad--no image). If Blue (most common) you will have a yellow looking screen. The offending picture tube has to be removed, drained, taken apart from the frame and opened--washed out in sink with hot water and put back together (two seals also should be removed, washed and put back with silicone glue.New Glycol filled and everything put back together and then in the set--let the glue dry for a day first and after putting new Glycol in see you have NO LEAKS.Wear latex gloves and get none on you or the floor--stuff is toxic and slippery. Two pints is usually enough for a refill---Suburban Electronics and other sites sell it by the pint.Having read this far you correctly may have assumed this is not a job for a do it yourself person---Not to mention when tube is replaced if physical position is off even a millimeter set will require extensive convergence adjustments with the set in the tech menu and using the original remote.I have done a lot of these but since Glycol is toxic and there are correct and wrong ways you may want to pass on this.....Most shops will do one tube for a average of 150 or more.Let me know if you have questions.SD TECH

oK, I will tell you what Philips told me some years ago about this set and others made at that time. You have any unusual problem, remote does not work, sound goes out or up and down, etc etc it is the small signal module. The set has a small signal board (from back it is large board on far left) and the small signal module plugs into it. SSM is about 4 by 5 inches and all surface mounted parts. The board will have a part number on a label on it.EVERYTHING is routed thru this board from either the remote or the front control board. They may still be available on an exchange basis from someone like PTS ELECTRONICS but were over 100 the last time I looked a few years ago.95% chance your problem is that board. GOOGLE THE MODEL NUMBER AND ssm OR SMALL SIGNAL MODULE FOR MORE INFORMATION.REGARDS, sd tech
