I have an HP Pavillion a1412n ER891AA-ABA. We recently shipped our computers to Honduras (there now). the HP reads boot disk error, insert disk, which we have none. is there anyplace to download a...

Try this. HP's are notorious for having these. Since they were shipped(could have been shaking, etc.); this might work.
Take the side off of your tower. locate your CMOS battery on the motherboard.(looks like a watch battery;about the size of a nickel. Then plug up your computer(with the CMOS battery out), power on for at least 10 seconds. This will reset your system back to default settings. Now; re-install the CMOS battery, and power back on.
See if that fixes it...

As you can't login Windows XP operating system, the only thing you can do is making a Windows password recovery disk and using the disk to recover your Windows password, and then you need:

1> a blank CD disk.
2> a computer that can download from Internet and have a CD writer.
3> a program that can recover Windows password. In this tutorial we highly recommended Windows Login Recovery and use it as an example.

Part 2: Recover the forgotten Windows XP administrator password

Step 1. Download Windows Login Recovery from the official website.

Step 2. Install Windows Login Recovery on your Windows XP computer, then launch it (When launch the program, you will see the ISO image file has automatically entered. Please leave it as the default).

Step 3. Choose a device to burn the ISO image file, we select the CD writer.

Step 4. Click Burn and then start to burn the ISO image file (Please insert the blank CD disk into the CD writer first). When the burning completes, click OK and the disk will eject itself.

Step 5. Change your locked computer's BIOS settings to make it boot from CD-ROM: (3 steps)

1). Reboot your locked computer, press F2 or Delete to enter your BIOS setup during the booting.

2). On the Boot tab, set the Boot Device Priority. Make sure the CDROM Drives is before Hard Disk Drives.

3). Press F10 and Y followed by Enter to save the BIOS settings and reboot your locked computer.

Step 6. Use the created disk to recover the Windows XP administrator password: (5 steps)

1). Insert the created disk into the CD-ROM of the locked computer and reboot it (When the locked computer boots, you can see Windows Login Recovery initializing).

2). Enter the ID number of the hard drive volume that Windows is installed.

3). Enter the ID number for the User Name.

4). Enter y (yes) to confirm your action or n (no) to deny the action, then hit Enter.

5). Enter y to continue to remove passwords of other accounts or n to finish (If you enter n, the locked computer will reboot, please eject the created disk first).

Congratulations! You have successfully removed the Windows XP administrator password. Now you can login Windows XP without password and you can create a new one.

Lost my windows xp password , I can't log on.

1. Place your Windows XP CD in your cd-rom and start your computer (it’s assumed here that your XP CD is bootable – as it should be - and that you have your bios set to boot from CD)
2. Keep your eye on the screen messages for booting to your cd Typically, it will be “Press any key to boot from cd”
3. Once you get in, the first screen will indicate that Setup is inspecting your system and loading files.

4. When you get to the Welcome to Setup screen, press ENTER to Setup Windows now
5. The Licensing Agreement comes next - Press F8 to accept it.
6. The next screen is the Setup screen which gives you the option to do a Repair.

It should read something like “If one of the following Windows XP installations is damaged, Setup can try to repair it”
Use the up and down arrow keys to select your XP installation (if you only have one, it should already be selected) and press R to begin the Repair process.
7. Let the Repair run. Setup will now check your disks and then start copying files which can take several minutes.
8. Shortly after the Copying Files stage, you will be required to reboot. (this will happen automatically – you will see a progress bar stating “Your computer will reboot in 15 seconds”
9. During the reboot, do not make the mistake of “pressing any key” to boot from the CD again! Setup will resume automatically with the standard billboard screens and you will notice Installing Windows is highlighted.
10. Keep your eye on the lower left hand side of the screen and when you see the Installing Devices progress bar, press SHIFT + F10. This is the security hole! A command console will now open up giving you the potential for wide access to your system.
11. At the prompt, type NUSRMGR.CPL and press Enter. Voila! You have just gained graphical access to your User Accounts in the Control Panel.
12. Now simply pick the account you need to change and remove or change your password as you prefer. If you want to log on without having to enter your new password, you can type control userpasswords2 at the prompt and choose to log on without being asked for password. After you’ve made your changes close the windows, exit the command box and continue on with the Repair (have your Product key handy).
13. Once the Repair is done, you will be able to log on with your new password (or without a password if you chose not to use one or if you chose not to be asked for a password). Your programs and personalized settings should remain intact.

Do you know where I can find a recovery disc for an HP 873n Media Center PC? I called hp and they don't have one.

Hi,
You are correct HP do not provide the recovery disks for this Media Center anymore.

I've just about searched the net for anyone who may have recovery CD's for sale but no no avail.

If you can still get into the operating system use HP Backup and Recovery Manager, its quick and user-friendly. To run, simply go to All Programs > HP Backup & Recovery > HP Backup and Recovery Manager. With HP Backup & Recovery Manager, file restoration is easy. To recover a deleted file, simply use the Restore Wizard.

For a full system restoration, press the F11 key during boot up and then select "Recover PC" from the menu if there is a recovery partition available (sometimes you have to hold down Ctrl and hit the F11 key on boot up)

Other than that you may have to purchase a Windows XP or Windows XP Media Center installation CD from a reputable store like PC World for example.

Good luck.

<font color =''green''>Forgot Windows Xp Password</font>

If this is a desk top, on the motherboard there is a two pin jumper with only one empty slot beside it. You have to look towards the bottom center just offset toward the front of the machine for it. It's black an very small. Move this jumper from it's position to the next position. Then reboot entirely. Press "Okay"or "Enter" when asked for the password then you may create a new one. If this is a laptop it's best done by an expert. Thanks, Dana

Our Compaq Presario V6000 with XP Windows Medical Edition 2005 Serial # CNF6423GR6 has crashed due to a trojan virus that won't allow my computer to boot up anymore - just keeps kicking us out. We moved to...

Reinstall windows system is very easy to to operate but without having a Bootable Disk or that Windows XP Media Center Edition Disc, i think you have to buy a new one or Genuine Windows XP Media Center Edition. It's in the market.
And also if you friends that are using any Compaq Presario which they have the WINDOWS CD. Borrow it to install in your LAPTOP.
At least XP Media Center Edition they use.
There is another options on how to put operating system on your laptop. To gather any information or to do at least we have any ideas how to get it.
No need for any Serial #. Genuine Windows Media Center Edition have it's own LICENSE or CD KEY.
Hope this might help you my idea. Good luck!
