Hi fleetpio,

1. How to detect sata HD?- I am assuming that you have fixed the hardware part. During POST (Power On Self Test) press delete key inyour keyboard.

pcsyke_132.jpg

2. After pressing delete, a menu like the image above will appear. use arrow key to navigate, enter to select, +/- to modify values, Esc to exit current menu and F10 to save settings. proceed to Features Setup and press enter.

pcsyke_133.jpg

3. Another menu will appear like the image shown above, on the Onboard SATA-IDE from IDE change it to SATA-IDE.

4. Press F10, Saves the current configuration and exit setup.

5. To verify if the SATA hard drive has been detected, look on your POST if the HD appears. If the full screen logo appears repeat Step1 proceed to Standard CMOS Setup, check if youre HD appears.

Hopefully this information helps.

Found my old HD (Western Digital WD1200JD) and decided to use it as a secondary to my much smaller HD. I've plugged in the SATA port, heard it turn on with its unique noise, and I've gone to see if it was...

You need to configure first on your BIOS that it will detect 2 SATA Hard Disks so and set you Primary and Slave. If this doesn't work, basically your HD does not work anymore.

BIOS CANNOT DETECT HD SATA

The problem is cause of Hard Disk Drive. To solve, follow by these steps:

1.Check and make sure the connectors and cables between your motherboard and HDD are not loose.
If cables and connectors don't have a problem:
2.Make sure your Hard Disk Drive is power on and running.
If not you have to change your HDD.

I wish you'll be useful.

Compaq Mother board

Sounds like your hard drive has crashed. If you are getting an audible click from the hard drive, it is the arm hitting. Even then, sometimes you can get them to boot up on occasion.

The hard drive/SATA issue would depend on your motherboard connection. I think that there may be adapters to convert from a IDE to a SATA, but I haven't ever used one.

I want to install RHEL3.0 in SATA DeskStart HD using MSI SATA MB, but not detecting at OS installation time. HOW i can detect, Pls help me!!!!

You need to create a space for which to install Linux. That likely means resizing Windows. Partition Magic is a good Windows utility to accomplish this, although there is a Linux version called Gaprtedthat will do essentially the same thing. You download the Gparted live cd, burn to disk, and run it from your computer. You must go into "setup" and set your Bios to boot from CDROM before booting the Hard Drive. Once booted, follow the on screen instructions. Resize Windows, (but NOT before a thorough defrag of your Windows drive), and create a "blank space" for Linux. Afterward, boot your Linux distro, (RedHat 9 was a great distro, but a newer version of a Red Hat based distro would serve you better, sayCentOS or Fedora Core), and follow the online instructions. Good Luck!
