You can do what you want. So far, i have not been able to do the "clip sport" version but the clip+ vesion, i can retrieve the music and deinstitutionalize even if expired. Process may take anywhere between 15-45 min. Super simple. Contact for details. [email protected]

You can go to this webpage: http://www.corrlinks.com/MP3Reset/ which is linked from SanDisk Webpage: http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/12839/~/atg-mp3-player-deinstitutionalization-and-warranty-processing

Sending away your mp3 player to be unlocked is useful if you have music or audiobooks, etc. that you want to keep. You have to pay for this service though, so if there is no media on it that you want to keep or if your player costs about the same as the fee, it may be cheaper to buy a new MP3 player.

This has been asked a couple of times on the Sansa Clip forum, and the general opinion seems to be that it is not possible. Have a look at the discussion here:

Is there a way to deinstitutionalize the Sandisk mp3 players on your own?

there is no (consumer) known way for you to do this on your own. Pay the 25 bucks and send it in so they can do it. They have these things locked down pretty tight; nobody to my knowledge has found a way to circumvent it.

my source of research is http://forums.sandisk.com/t5/Sansa-Clip-Sansa-Clip/deinstitutionalize-or-factory-restore/td-p/301697/page/2

Down load the software for my sandiisk sansa clip

If you have sansa clip or clip+, you don't need the sandisk sansa clip software. If you need manual book, it's right here, http://www.sandisk.com/media/175960/clip_um_0608_eng.pdf
I'm using sansa clip and I don't need that software.

Computer wont recognize sansa clip mp3 player

Reformat clip with disk utility after looking at it like an external disk. Do this by turning it off. Puting it in lock mode. Hold down middle button as you plug it in.

I am mad at my Clip as it did the same thing.
