Do you mean import? First of all you must have at least iTune install, and since you have an iMac, it should be a no brainer.
Open iTunes, on top of the status bar, click where it reads iTunes, scroll to Preference, under General, where it reads When a cd is inserted, click it and change it to Import cd.
Now every time you insert a cd (music) it will import the music to iTunes

start up holding down eject button,

make sure the cd driver is ok and has no scratch. other wise you have to down load ther driver from the net.

burn a version of OS X onto a CD/DVD from a mac computer and insert it into the computer on start up hold down "C" until you can hear the CD/DVD loading.

Shut down the mac by holding in the power button for about 10 seconds.
Is the CD a system CD or something else?
If it's a system CD restart the mac and hold down the letter C on the keyboard. after about 30 seconds the mac should boot up into installation mode. If it does, click on the language then then at the next page go up to the menu bar and locate Utilities and disk utility. Run the disk repair then try and restart. (The flashing ? means that the computer cannot find a start-up drive with a valid system on it. The repair routine can sometimes fix that - it doesn't always though.)
If it's not a system CD and you obviously need to get it out before you can do anything else - restart the mac but this time instead of holding down the C key, hold down the click on the mouse. It takes 10 to 15 seconds (sometimes longer) but it will force the computer to eject t the CD.

Try holding down ALT while booting up and select Macintosh HD. If that doesn't work try inserting your mac osx install CD or DVD restart hold down ALT. Select the CD using the arrow keys after the CD has loaded go up to the drop down menus and go to disk utility, then click on your main boot disk (macintosh HD) and under the First AID tab (if your using osx) click verify permissions and restore permissions, then click verify disk and repair disk. Try to boot up. If this doesn't work restart leaving work mac osx CD in hold down D then follow the disk checker steps. This will tell you if there are any errors on your disk (hard drive). If there are you need to get it fixed or replaced.

This is a sign that the startup disk can't be found.

When you power on the computer, try holding down the "alt" key or "option" key on your keyboard.

Then after a while, it should ask you to select the location of the operating system. Select your macintosh HD. Everything should load as normal.

If this doesn't work, insert the install cd's and hold down "c" instead. This will load the cd with mac os x on it. You can then install the operating system. Please make sure you have backups. Unless the option to simply upgrade or repair your mac pops up, you will loose your files following this method.

With the OS X Installer CD in the drive, try booting your mac and holding down the option key immediately after you hear the start up chime. This will (hopefully) load a firmware boot loader that will show available start up discs. Hopefully the OSX installer will show up as CD Icon. Select the Icon with your mouse or keyboard and press enter to start up with the Installer CD. From the installer you should be able to erase and format the drive as Mac OS Extended before installing OS X.


If the computer still won't boot from the CD double check that it is a retail OS X installer CD. If your CD has "software restore" or "ibook restore" or any other varient of restore written on the label; or if it names a particular model such as "ibook install" or "imac install" it is not a retail copy and may not be a bootable disc. A retail copy will only name the version of the operating system followed by the word install written on it's label and usually have a brief instruction on booting from the CD by holding the C key at startup.

Folder with a blinking question mark means a missing system folder, in other words there isn't an OS installed. To fix this you need to boot from the OS X installer CD. With the OS X installer CD in the drive, hold down the C key on your keyboard when you start your mac. This tells the mac to boot from the optical drive (i.e. CD drive) and load the OS X installer. From there just follow the onscreen instructions to install OS X.
Also, you should be aware that the ibook is not compatible with Windows XP. Only the newer “intel macs” of the past few years are compatible with XP. Your mac predates Apple's transition to intel processors and Windows XP compatibility on the mac platform by a few years. This is why your Windows XP CD didn't load on it. The ibook is Mac OS X only.
It only runs on Mac OS X however it is compatible with newer versions of the OS. 10.2 jaguar is kind of old and a little buggy. You may want to consider installing 10.4 Tiger for improved stability and performance. Avoid the newest version (10.5 Leopard) as it is geared towards newer and faster machines.
