What would cause my maytag front load washer not to spin? It is a Maytag front load washer and it will not spin. The water drains out no problem just doesn't spin. Also the drum looks lower than it normally does.

The stator is essentially one half of a motor, it interacts with the tub by creating a strong electro-magnet. If the stator burns out the washer won't spin or agitate. Motor Control Board If the washer won't spin or agitate the motor control board might be defective. The motor control board provides power to the motor as well as direction and force. If the motor control board is defective the washer may not work at all or function properly.

take the back panel off,see if the belt has broke if not,check your motor control board for burn spots ,front bottom right inside washer,if not that then your motor has gotten weak and will not turn the drum,let me knoe what you find-mike

Check out the motor control board near the floor on the right side. These have a high failure rate on the Neptunes. Maytag redesigned both the motor and motor control board to be more reliable. While inspecting this board, you are looking for a blown 10 amp fuse and /or burnt components. If you have either... then you will need the the new 12002039 motor conversion kit which includes the motor, motor control board and the wire harness.

First drain as much water from the drum as possible and unplug from the outlet. Then there are 2 screws left and right under the front lower panel at floor level. Undo those two screws. Pry the front panel DOWN from the door panel. Once the lower panel is removed you will see the pump and pump filter on your right. The pump filter is to the left. It has a large turnscrew. Be ready with a pan or something to catch the water from the open filter! Screw this counterclockwise until it comes loose. You will now be able to remove the filter and all the debris. After cleaning, re-screw the turnscrew. Before you put back the front panel test that it is clear by doing a wash. If it still doesnt drain you must remove debris from the pump itself. The pump is between the pump filter and the pump motor on the right. Undo the white clips from the motor and the retaing clips attiching the filter to the metal washer body. Then turn the motor clockwise to separate it from the filter. Refit carefully after job is done. And fit outlet tube a correct height, not too deep. <courtesy tzotsi>

On the 9700s it's even easier - three screws on the front bottom panel below the door, then use your hand to unscrew the large round handle in the front center. When you can't unscrew any more, pull gently and the filter / catcher will come out.
It's amazing how much stuff mine held - 4 breastfeeding shields, a pencil, a pen, a fake mouse, and lots of grey gunk.
Screw it back in, put the panel back on, and you're in business.

the sound is unmistakeable and always described the same...
the water issue, you probably have a trickle leak through the cold water valve
the mixing valve is quite an easy repair, but I would have to say with all honesty, it probably time for a new machine
the hub seal is a tub replacment call
2 hrs of labor if hes good
and the tub runs around 500.00 dollars
