You could reinstall the firmware (what makes the sansa work). Its pretty easy to do, no need of downloading/installig, its already all in the sansa. You just need a computer How do I restore the firmware Firstly, place the e260 in restore mode. To do this, follow these steps 1. Push the Hold button on top of the e260 to the right. 2. Hold in the record button 3. Press and release the Menu button 4. The device will now go into Restore Mode. If you have not already connected the USB cable to your PC, it will direct you to do so. 5. The root directory of the device will open up on the PC screen. Now drag and drop the two files Firmware into into the e260 root directory. You will find a copy of the two firmware files zipped up elsewhere on these forums 6. Push the Hold button on the e260 back to the left 7. Unplug the USB cable from the PC. The e260 will now reboot, writing the new firmware images to the correct location. 8. This process will have wiped all your music files. You will now need to re-synch.

SOURCE: deleting music from sandisk sansa E260 4FB mp3 player

you can change the usb mode in the sansa player settings to MCS then connect it to the computer, in windos xp the device will be recognized automacally. go to the explorer or to my pc and you should see it there.. go to the folder music and delete what you want,, you can copy music as well.

then desconect it safely and restart the device,, It will refresh the database and that's it.

you can change the USB mode bac to MTP if you wish.

SOURCE: Sansa e260 How to delete songs ?

This MIGHT fix the problem: Make sure that Windows Explorer is set to show hidden files and folders. In Windows XP, click TOOLS, FOLDER OPTIONS, VIEW and make sure you have selected "Show hidden files and folders".

Trying to add storage space unable to add music with new mlcro sdhc 8g memory card. mp3 player says music wont fit.

The Sansa e-series works with microSD cards. While microSDHC cards will fit into the slot, they are electronically incompatible and will not work. You need to use microSD cards, 2GB and smaller.

Sansa e260 has no space left to write the database info. Vista and also Windows Media Player don't ''see'' any files. I can listen to all the music on the MP3 but I want to delete some and add others.

Same problem delete a couple of songs up to 6 mg or 10 whatever then allow to refresh then download your songs back in the music file. the sansa needs some memory to know it has the sdcard in it...

Go to my computer scroll to sansa and open the media folder and open each sub folder and delete manually then delete the folders themselfs then format a couple of times hope this works
Start over put new songs on it

MY sansa e260 MP3 player

Try to add the device manually.

Plug the player in while it’s set to "MTP" mode. (This selection is in the Settings area)

On your computer, open Device Manager, and select: Add Hardware.

Choose the "already connected the hardware" option.

From list, choose "Add a new hardware device".

Select: "Install the hardware that I manually select from a list."

Select: Portable Devices, then MTP device.

Hope it works for you.
