I just activated my alcatel 871 and data plan. I was able to set up my rogers email, but when I try to set up my gmail account, I am getting authentication error.
Here are the steps to resolve Gmail authentication error:
First of all, go to the official sign-in page of Gmail and then log in to your Gmail account using your email address and password.
Click on the gear icon which is available at the top-right side.
Click on Settings from the scroll down menu.
After that, click on Forwarding IMAP/POP section.
Now enable the IMAP settings on your Gmail account to complete the process.

Authentication error is usually caused by one of two things; incorrect email password or an unrecognized IP address. you have to select imap4 as the connection type, not pop3.
incoming mail server ---- imap.gmail.com
outgoing mail server----smtp.gmail.com
these are the setting that are needed to access gmail on your mobile
