I have a 1/2 horsepower electric motor 230 volt 3 speed w/ capacitor HVAC fan assembly. how do I wire it to power by color coded wires?

Keeping in mind that some motors may be different
The most common wire colors on a 3 speed motor are as follows:
Red- Low speed
Blue- Medium speed
Black- High speed
Brown capacitor wires ( usually two of them connect to the two capacitor terminals doesn't matter which wire to which terminal)
White - Neutral wire on 115 volt systems or the other 115 volt side of a 230 volt system ( note on a 230 volt motor this wire may not be white). Remember this is the most common wiring but different motors may have different wiring.

115 volt ac
The Run or Hot wire has the run capacitor and the neutral wire does not.

So if you are tracing wires out in a circuit, if there's a run capacitor, it's the Run wire or Run circuit.
The Start wire always goes to the opposite side of the run capacitor than the Run wire and it is the only wire on that side of the capacitor.
The Run wire goes to the run capacitor, then goes to contactor, compressor, start capacitor or fan, so there's usually two wires on the Run side of the capacitor.

My 2003 Astro vans rear heater works great but the front only blows cold air

Air Temperature Actuator
The air temperature actuator is a 3 wire bi-directional electric motor. Ignition 3 voltage, ground and control circuits enable the actuator to operate. The control circuit uses a 0-12 volt linear-ramped signal to command the actuator movement. The 0 and 12 volt control values represent the opposite limits of the actuator range of motion. The values in between 0 and 12 volts correspond to the positions between the limits.
When the HVAC control assembly sets a commanded, or targeted, value, the control signal is set to a value between 0-12 volts. The actuator shaft rotates until the commanded position is reached. The module will maintain the control value until a new commanded value is needed.

HVAC Control Assembly
The HVAC control assembly is a non-class 2 device that interfaces between the operator and the HVAC system to maintain air temperature and settings. The battery positive and ignition 3 voltage circuits provide power to the control assembly. Two integrated potentiometers control air temperature door position and blower motor speed. The integrated vacuum system controls the mode door position. The control assembly supports the following features:

Table fan winding&connection daigram

  • I have a Bionaire brand table electric fan.
    • It has a 3 speed fan motor.
    • The electric motor is a BM-122 Decomin brand 3 speed motor.
      • There are 6 wires:
        • Red wire.
        • Black wire.
        • White wire.
        • Yellow wire.
        • Gray wire.
        • Blue wire.
          • The motor has a 4mu 250volt capacitor.
  • This fan has an oscillating grill with independent sync motor, and timer circuit.
  • Something was wrong with the solid state circuitry (everything worked but the motor!), but a quick test of the motor indicated it does work.
  • The motor uses a start and run capacitor.
  • I decided to change controls to a simple mechanical switch and fore go for now anything beyond 3 speeds.
  • The printed circuit board shows the following connections:
    • Black wire
    • Blue wire
    • Yellow wire
      • Are respective for the:
        • High fan motor speed
        • Medium fan motor speed
        • Low fan motor speed
  • I think the gray wire goes out to the oscillator motor.
    • The Red wire is marked as Line, for the power source.
  • All wires are in continuity with each other EXCEPT RED is not with any other wire. How to Verify Fan Motor Wiring Connections
    • Checking the Motor and Capacitor Connections
    • Double check your connections using the fan wiring diagrams.
    • You should see that there is a separate motor winding for high speed.
      • The concern is that there is a capacitor for the motor.
      • So I'm thinking that the motor may have to start with the slower speeds first.
      • and not start in the high speed because the motor or capacitor has not been designed for that type of operation.

WHY DON'T I GET 3 DIFFERENT SPEEDS WITH DL1056 FAN MOTOR?

If you assemble the blower and check after its installed you will find that the speed does change. Not because the motor is wound for slower speed but because the horsepower is lower from one wire color to the other. Red might be 1/6 horse power, Black would be the full 1/3 horse power, Blue is in the middle there somewhere. Generally its black for cool and red for heat just depends on the system. There is a purist out there somewhere that would like me to say that the temperature rise across the heat exchanger should be considered and you can ponder that if you wish. The manufacturer will have a pdf you can access if you like but I bet nobody will ever notice. Hope I helped and good luck.

Replaced a one speed 230volt 1 phase electric motor with a two speed 230 volt 1 phase electric motor, now have extra wires which color wires do you use or cap??

Look at the old motor and see what the rated rpm was. Next look at the new motor and see if it gives a speed for each wire. If it doesn't give the speed for each wire then look at the rated motor speed. That will be the Hi speed. Hook up the wire that matches the speed of the old motor and cap the other.

How to connect the Dayton Capacitor Start Motor to 230 volts ?

In the **********, the screws will be market L1 & L2. There will also be a jumper that needs to be connected between the 2 terminals for 230V.

All info(model# ect.) weathered off of unit. Need motor for blower. Looks like 4 ton. how many horse power?

1/4 horsepower, 1075 RPM, 3 speed motor with a 1/2" diameter shaft will do the trick. If you have gas heating, you will need the 115 volt motor., If you have electric heating, you will need the 208/230 volt motor.
