There's a download service manual for $7.99 at http://eu.selffixer.com/outboard.motors/Johnson.evinrude/1995-Johnson-vro-70-manual.htm If this isn't late enough dig about a bit more.

SOURCE: oil mixture for a 70 hp Johnson boat motor?

If it is a 2-stroke motor than gas:oil ratio should be 50:1

SOURCE: vro pump on a 92 johnson 150hp

If you are having problems with the VRO then I would just remove or disable it and mix your own fuel. It is cheaper and there have been alot of problems with those going out while the engine is running and then they sieze their engine because of the faulty VRO. Mix your fuel 50:1 and you will be able to run all day!

SOURCE: need to change impellor on 1988 70 hp johnson how

first go to www.crowleymarine.com to get a picture breakdown of your water pump. website instruction, click on part catalog tab, click on omc Johnson and evinrude tab. choose product line, year tab, engine size, choose model. click on gearcase. the picture showes all parts you have and the correct order they go. ok now we are ready to disasemble the lower gearcase from the motor.(1) trim the outboard down using the tim and tilt system (2) shift remote control into forward gear, this lines up the shift rod so you can reach it. a picture of the linkage is refernce number 50 on the picture from crowleymarine.(3) Remove engine coul, under the carburators you will be able to see the shift rod. if you can't see it follow the shift cable to the shift linkage to the shift rod(4) the shift rod has a hole in the top, that a long screw goes through, connecting shift rod to shift linkage. remove this screw(refer to picture downloaded)(5) again refer to the downloaded picture remove these bolts that i list. number 66 there is 4. #77 there is 1. pull off #76 trim tab.#68 there is 1. #70 there is 1. lower unit will drop after you remove all bolts. remove the impeller housing. look at impeller you will see the fins are bent in one direction. put new impeller in with fins bent in the same direction. reinstall housing and gear case following my dirction in reverse order.

SOURCE: I need a free owners manual for a 1977 Johnson

I spent almost an hour digging for Original and OEM manuals. Seems that the only way to get a manual is to purchase one. Your model number is going to be one of the following: 70EL77, 75ELR77, or 75ER77. You did not say if it was a 2 or 4 stroke. All of the aftermarket books seem to be printed by Ken Cook Co.

This statement appears often:

A limited supply of originally printed and bound manuals for Evinrude, Johnson, Gale and OMC products are still available. When original manuals are no longer available, orders will be fulfilled with a non-bound reproduction copy.

I gave it my all and came up empty handed.

Looking for a part name on a 1992 Johnson 70hp, where the water comes out, the little plastic piece that holds the tube in place.

Here are the parts schematics, but you need the proper engine model number. The best way is to go to a local Johnson outboard dealer as they will has all the diagrams

https://www.google.com/search?q=1992+johnson+70+hp+parts+schematic

That tube has a common name, but this website's profanity filter will probably not allow it. replace the two '**' in this Google search link with 'ee'.

https://www.google.com/search?q=1992+johnson+70+hp+p**+hole

At the bottom of the page is this, which will also get flagged by the profanity filter. Add ' pp ' instead of $$.

I am ready to purchase a boat with a 1990 Johnson 150 hp vro outboard motor. I have read that there may be an oil problem with this model and what the cost may be to correct it. Thanks Al

The following link may help you decide. It is a discussion of Variable Ratio Oiler vs Premix oil and fuel.
There are arguments on both sides that you should read.

This person likes the VRO, but has a list of maintenance requirements to keep it working well. With a 17 year old engine There are a lot of points of failure that need to be considered. If the VRO fails the engine self destructs.

Keep your VRO.

The Trailer Boats Magazine article in Feb 2000 has lots of good tips to keep your VRO running. Here is a short summary:

Sediment and/or water can build up on the bottom of the oil tank. Draw a sample from the bottom with a turkey baster and squirt it into a jar. If it lookt like you have water and/or dirt, remove and drain the tank. Clean throughly, replace filter and purge/replace the oil line. This sounds like a good thing to do annually.

Replace clear oil cap with black (#176217)

Inspect all oil lines carefully ! If oil lines are more than a few years old (or are smooth vinyl) replace with 1/4" ID rubber (#333485). Avoid tie wraps and worm gear clamps in favor of OEM rachet clamps (#333654).

Inspect all vaccuum lines carefully !! If more than a few years old, replace them.

Inspect all fuel lines carefully !! Clogged filters, anti-siphon valves, kinked lines will cause problems.

Install blue pulse limiter (#435009) to protect VRO from backfires.

Don't run carbs dry as you will suck in too much oil !

There are lots more tips that are model year specific, so go to your local library.
