I have the top panel. I tried the solution mentioned, but couldn't even get to step 1. When I press the down arrow and heated dry for three seconds (or more), the only thing that lights up is the lock settings light. What am I doing wrong? Are there any other solutions to purge the automatic dispenser?

How to Purge Incorrect Liquid Detergent from the Bulk Dispenser

The purge routine operates the bulk dispenser pump continuously to drain the bulk dispenser tank when an incorrect liquid was poured in the tank. The process consists of setting up the dishwasher to run the purge mode, running the purge mode and then cleaning up the purged detergent.

Follow these steps carefully to have a successful purge run.

For Top Control Models:

  1. Make sure Pre-wash, Added Heat and Heated Dry LEDs are off.
  2. Press Heated Dry and Down Arrow buttons together for 3 seconds. All LEDs will illuminate.
  3. Press Added Heat and Up Arrow buttons together for 3 seconds. The Anti-bacteria LED will illuminate
  4. Press Start button one time
  5. Select Normal and make sure Pre-wash, Added Heat and Heated Dry LEDs are off.
  6. Press Start button one more time and dishwasher will run a complete cycle without the main motor running. Cycle is complete when the Clean light illuminates. This should take approximately 60 minutes.
  7. Open door and wipe up excess detergent from the door and tub
  8. Flush remaining detergent off by pouring water on the door and tub where there is detergent residue.
  9. Remove SmartDispenser cap and fill tank with water and then replace cap.
  10. Repeat Steps 1 through 9 one time.
  11. Then, repeat Steps 1 through 6. When the Clean LED illuminates, the system is purged and ready to be refilled with the correct detergent.
Front Mount Controls (same as above except for the changes in the two below steps):

2. Press Heated Dry and Cookware together for 3 seconds. All LEDs illuminate.

3. Press Added Heat and Cookware together for 3 seconds. The Anti-bacterial LED illuminates.

The steps listed above really work! I did not realize our auto soap dispenser quit working months ago. My wife switched to to soap packets when the dispenser quit. Until recently I traveled every week for my job (didn't pay much attention to running the dishwasher!) The reason I'm telling all this is that because of the months of being clogged... I had to repeat the above process 5 times before all the congealed soap came out! Hooray !!

The Cascade liquid detergent in my Smart Dispense GE Profile dishwasher has congealed for some reason. My dishes are not getting cleaned, and the rinse water is gushing up and out of the air vent. I have...

I had and solved this problem. First, this answer addresses only the congeal nature of Cascade and how to get it out. And you aren't going to like the answer. The easiest answer is to take the door apart and replace the bottle and you can't re-place the one you took off. You will need to order a few parts assuming that you can clean the bottle once you get it off. I did it without removing the bottle and it took hours. I used grass trimmer plastic wire and shoved it in the bottom tip of the bottle to break up the gel. I then used a long 'hemostat' to retrieve chunks from the large opening in the door. Imagine trying to grab one of these gelatin balls with a hemostat. It takes a careful touch. In between, I would pour hot water in and try to dissolve the gel. that didn't do much good. When I got a clean flow of water, i re-connected everything and purged the system per instructions a few times before putting things back together. This took hours beginning to end. And Cascade people at P&G tell me that it is from mixing two types of their product... one with enzymes and another with chlorine.... Who knows.

The smart soap dispenser on my GE profile dishwasher is not dispensing soap. I filled the smart dispenser several months ago and it does not appear that any of the soap was dispensed. how do i resolve?...

We mistakenly switched liquid detergents and mixed enzyme based and bleach based. They gelled in the dispenser. I took the outer door cover off and could not figure out how to take the white plastic despenser off of the main door without breaking it. I disconected the electrical harness and took the main door off the hinges so I could take it outside, turn it upside down and use the garden hose pressure nozzle to blast the gellout of the white plastic dispenser. I use a piece of plastic coat hanger to poke around inside to break up the gell several times. It all came out in marble size pieces.

How do I purge congealed gel detergent from the Smart Dispense bulk dispenser? I've scooped out all that I can and added water to dilute the remaining, but it doesn't want to empty during cleaning cycles....

Part of the solution is on the GE website: http://www.geappliances.com/search/fast/infobase/10010832.htm

But first you must remove or mash the gelled detergent into very small pieces so it can pass through the pump and outlet. You must clean out most of the gelled detergent down in the door going towards the pump and the outlet at the base of the door. You can disassemble the door, or I used a length of 3/8" soft plastic tubing pushed down into the detergent cavity repeatedly to break up and pull the chunks up to the fill door where I could remove or mash them. You may also need to this between the first run of the procedure and the second. You may need to do the purge filling the dispenser with water (I used hot - 120F) more than the once in the procedure.

Low detergent light does not come on indicating the GE profile dishwasher is out of detergent.

It is probably because your Smart Dispenser is full of water and there may be a clog of some type in the pump. Try purging your Smart Dispenser and see if it fixes the problem!! It fixed ours!!

No water, no ice, but new water filter cartridge

If it was running before the filter change you need to purge the filter cartridge of the air in the lines. Also check voltage on the back on the water control valves . While someone presses dispenser you should get 120volts AC on the plug receptacle side for the dispenser . Let me know what you find, Sea Breeze

Check the reservoir hose , and unclog it if necessary. You may need to disassemble the reservoir/dispenser to solve the problem.
