It sound like the color or the screen parts inside of the game boy color are not working properly so it would just be easier to buy a new one vs fixing the current one. The current one could be fixed but it might not be an easy fix and the fix might be complicated then.

colors all messed up, looks like 3-D ??   convergence amps and possible a few resistors are bad
