Depending on the make and model, there may be a plastic cap or screw holding them in place. Watch they spring doesen't fly out when you remove the cap.
cut the bad part out,then strip the outer insulation off carefully as not to knick the inner insulation,then strip off all wire ends appx 3/4" to 1" and twist the black wire to the other black wire and tape securely so no bare wires are showing,then do the same with the white/white wires and then green/green ground wires and finally tape the whole thing to keep out moisture with electrical tape from most hardware/d.i.y. stores
same thing on my weedeater 22inch. i rebuilt the carb.. id not fix. my guess is you are getting fire to theplug. check with a plug tester.. if no fire, not much you can do except dissasemble to replace ignition
check with a small engine shop near you to see if they can get these parts for you.or you might fine them at www.partstree.com.

The brushes for the trimmer is no longer available, so unless you can find someone who has old stock of the part, your going to have to replace this one.
