Not working Lost power on 1872 AT&T phone. Re-recorded all my announcements in all mailboxes...still plays default. When call the number, default message plays but no messages are recorded.

Same problem as described. The manual says that you can assign an individual announcement to line 1, line 2, or both, but then never documents how to do this.

Astonishingly, assignment of announcement to phone line is not documented in the user manual. Tech support was totally worthless concerning this issue. I had to discover it by trial and error. To assign an announcement to a specific phone line do the following:
1) Record your announcement message for a, b, c, ao, etc. as documented
2) Press program
3) Keep pressing the feature button until ANNC appear at the bottom of screen, line 1 appears at the top, and the letter 'a' appears in the middle.
4) Choose the announcement to be assigned to Line 1 by pressing the select button
5) Press the feature button again. Line 2 appears in the display.
6) Repeat step 4 to select the announcement to be assigned to Line 2.
7) Press program button, or take phone off-hook to end the sequence.

Shame on AT&T for such shoddy documentation, and lack of support for their products!

Thank you for figuring this out. I have an old 1872 machine and the announcements got messed up due to a power outage. I could not figure this out at all until I read this.

I need to change the name that is said when someone dials an extension. For example, if I call the main number then dial an extension, I hear "Transfering you to 'blah blah'". I want to change...

The recording of the name you hear announced during the transfer is the recording that the particular mailbox owner has recorded. If that mailbox owner has not recorded a name then you will hear a system prompt of the extension number. Access that mailbox as the owner and you can record a new name for the mailbox. This is easiest if done from that mailbox owners phone, you will need the password for the mailbox if password protection is enabled. Once in the mailbox it will play any new messages then follow the prompts to get to user options.
