How to remove agitater from maytag washer - Maytag Neptune FAV6800AW Top Load Washer

Pull the fabric softener dispenser off the agitator, reach down and pull off the white cover (has 2 ears on it), then remove the bolt holding the agitator to the shaft. It then lifts off.

no odds are your whole gear casing needs replaced very expensive

CALL YOUR REPAIRMAN AND SEE IF HE CAN FIX YOUR WASHER FOR YOU. IF NOT, THEN IT IS TIME TO BUY A NEW WASHER. GOOD LUCK.

if you remove the agitater cap and the inside cap,you will see what they call dogs(4 of them)they wear out and the agitater will not wotk,if you remove the 7/16 bolt and pull the agitater off you can replace them and all will be fine,you can get them at your local appliance part store,please leave me a fixya-mike

I took the control panel off and played with the lid switch a little and found the agitater would work intermittently. I bypassed one of the switchs (it appeared to have two switches mounted on a plate) and the washer would work properly. I used information I found on RepairClinic.com to help understand my problem and see a picture of the switch for my washer, so I contacted them to purchase the part. I installed the lid switch assembly and it now works great.

sounds like the agitater drive is stripped its a plastic piece under tha agitater you just grab the agitater work your fingers under the edges and **** up on it and it snaps off then remove the 5/16 screw put a new block on and snap the agitater back on

problem solved ,agitater dogs were broken up inside the agitater hub replaced these and works fine now ,

sounds like the brakes squeal to me is that the end of the cycle if it is i would worry about it brakes do that not worth the effort of dealing with

its either the transmission itself or the upper bearing. most often its the transmission
