Why does the screen go black but yet still sound?

There is not much you can do to fix your plasma. Since the plasma is less then 1 year old, still under Samsung warranty.
I would suggest to call them to fix it.

Sounds like main board failure and or power board failure. You need to contact manufacturer and describe problem for tech support. Some of the parts in Samsung TVs have lifetime warranties. Change out of two board is about an hour job and service call is usually comped. Hope this helps. J

Most likely a capacitor burst damanging the screen. I reccomend leaving it off in order to prevent further damage. If its still under warranty contact samsung asap. ( http://www.samsung.com/us/info/contactus.html# )
If its no longer under warranty take a look in your local yellow pages for local electronics repair shops and they might be able to figure out how bad it is. But mostly likely a capacitor burst damaging the screen,  so its going to be a costly repair if its not covered by warranty. And if thats the case I would suggest just buying a new tv vs the cost of repair. Hopefully its still under warranty though.

You have a High Voltage problem probably in the horizontal output.
This is commenly refered to as the high voltage tripler.

try connecting tv to cable direct also try unplugging both converter and tv for wile like 5 mins plug both back in see if tv and converter sync, but if otherwise then
The ysus board is the most common reason.
