so had w8 right and you meant down grade it to w7, from 8?

2011 CPU runs w10, mostly. a sandybridge CPU,
HP.com only supports w7 and w8 on this PC
so you put your faith in MS that w10 works good luck with that.

I am sorry. There is no legal way to do it for free.

• The W7 is end-of-sale product. It is hard to buy.
• It is security risk if you will install some cracked W7. Modified (cracked) unofficial installation sources include trojans or other malware very often.
• A Windows 8 is good successor. My experience: The W8 is better than W7. Only some details (Start icon) are missing. I have modified the W8 setting, desktop etc. to be similar to W7 and I have become accustomed to W8. You need not use many strange W8 features if you do not like it. I ignore them all too: Loging-in by MS account, Microsoft Store, Bing search engine, Internet Explorer etc.

What do you prefer? A system for free or a Windows?

2: HP, media kit buy it and load fresh, HP W7,
both fail if HDD is bad, testing any HDD is a long process.
using powerful HDD test software. can take a day to run that..
and the horror way.... (I do it all the time but am READY)
3: use Microsoft, W7 install media and then all HP drivers are dead.
but can be fixed, if time is not money.


what I do is move the HDD to a real DT PC. Desktop)
and plug it in say as drive E: (using adaptors , have them all I do)
then test it 100 %using powerful HDD tests. and powerful A/T scans. from Eset.com

Im not listing 100s of programs that do that, there are endless eon,s
use a non destructive tests.
run crystal-disk SMART yet?, to see if HDD is end of life ?
no spare , sectors is that, END OF LIFE>

the PC had a 500GB hdd.
why not get a new SSD and end this.

there are only 3 ways to do this, (if possible at all, im a driver expert)
1: read the HP page, , no w7 there, zero support w7, checked.
2; open PC, read numbers off the chip, amazing no? find the chip?
3: or run the PCI scanner, I uses, and let that nice tool find the chip and its real maker name (code) and chip code.
bingo #3 is easy lacking HP.com support.

so you downgraged it to w7, and HP dont support down grades.
my guess is w8 was infected, and you didnt reload, w8 from scratch using F11 key, Restore, Am I correct?

W7 lacks drivers for chips not invented back in 2009?
your pc is newer than 2009 , and W7 may have no drivers for it.
if you look close *(unlike my elitebook) the w8 has the usb3 driver inside windows,8 and 8.1 already. so no HP driver is offered.
then you go to W7 and expect to find it there,

run this and it tells you every chip in the system.
