w8 was day1, OS. per HP.com
HP does not support w7. on this LT.
w7 32bit or 64bit, ?????
so its doomed to fail.? sure, and so you discovered that.
you clicked, "load automatcially in DM" with or with out internet connected, (yes, be connected is always best)
there are only 3 ways to do this, (if possible at all, im a driver expert)
1: read the HP page, , no w7 there, zero support w7, checked.
2; open PC, read numbers off the chip, amazing no? find the chip?
3: or run the PCI scanner, I uses, and let that nice tool find the chip and its real maker name (code) and chip code.
bingo #3 is easy lacking HP.com support.
4: or ask on HP forum, well its there. ananswer.
so lets do HP first, HP.com
it says at HP.com that it came with W8.
so you downgraged it to w7, and HP dont support down grades.
my guess is w8 was infected, and you didnt reload, w8 from scratch using F11 key, Restore, Am I correct?
W7 lacks drivers for chips not invented back in 2009?
your pc is newer than 2009 , and W7 may have no drivers for it.
if you look close *(unlike my elitebook) the w8 has the usb3 driver inside windows,8 and 8.1 already. so no HP driver is offered.
then you go to W7 and expect to find it there,
here is how to use the PCI scanner a free program.
run this and it tells you every chip in the system.
almost. all.
PCIsniffer3.
http://www.pcdied.com/pci-101.html
then when you find, USB3,
get the 2 codes.
mfg maker code, and chip code.
with that we go to the actual MFG and find a driver.
warning
some chips in the HP are buried deeper and only HP drivers work
on my LT, the USB 3 is (usb2 is intel)
is NEC company
chip code 0194h= upd720200
wiki,
In April 2009, Renesas Technology and NEC Electronics reached a basic agreement to merge by around April 2010.
see , you need to know these facts to find drivers.
its not NEC now.
its Renesas, (mine , not yours, this is but 1 example)
some USB chips need a reflash, or have bad drivers.

I think this covers all SMbus chips. they made.
