How to lift the top off Whirlpool Estate washer

A step by step guide to take the top off of washer -

Step 1
Unplug your Whirlpool Estate washing machine before attempting to service it.

Step 2
Disconnect your Whirlpool Estate washer from its water supply during repair.

Step 3
Use a small flashlight to illuminate the space underneath the top panel of the washer. Look for two small clips located about four inches in from the edges.

Step 4
Slide a putty knife or flathead screwdriver underneath the top panel of the washer. Find the clips with the tip of the knife or screwdriver, and apply pressure to release them.

Step 5
With the clips released, lift the top panel of the washer straight up. Slide the top panel back and out of your way while you complete repairs.

Step 6
Remove the top panel completely, if desired, by using a screwdriver to unscrew the screws that attach the top panel to the washer cabinet.

The best tool for getting the top off of a Cabrio, Oasis, or Bravos washer of this type is a putty knife. There are two spring clips located about 4.5 inches in from the corners that you depress with the putty knife through the seam in the front. The trick is that there are two plastic posts with ribs next to the clips that will impede your lifting of the top- so you have to get one side's clip to let the top up about 1/4 of an inch, then brace it with a screwdriver while putty knifing the other clip. Eventually, awkwardly, whispering expletives under your breath, you will get the lid up.... Now for the fun of troubleshooting that thing! get a putty knife and between the top and cabinet about 2 inches in on the left and right shove the putty knife in to depress pins (this can be frustrating) once you can lift up the whole top you will find a tech sheet in the inside of cabinet left . also you will need to do this to replace lid switch. run through diagnostics to view all errors . there will be a list of error codes in this tech sheet with troubleshooting ideas.

top/front of washer seperates by way of hidden clips. insert putty knife or butter knife between front seam of cabanet and top. about 2 inches from left side and 2 inches from right side push in and pull up on top. lid switch is located under top/front

To gain access to a Cabrio washer, use a putty knife to press inward on the 2 spring clips located where the washer top meets the washer's front/side wrap around case. Standing in front of the washer, measure approximately 3 inches inward from the outside of the case. It helps if you get eye level with the line where the top meets the case and shine a flashlight in the crack. You should be able to see the clips. Press in on both of them and the top should lift.

Most Whirlpool washers (Estate is one of their brands) open the same way. Insert the blade of a 3" wide putty knife in the seam between the top and the front near the left front corner and push and then repeat near the right front corner to release the clips then lift like the hood of a car.

Insert a putty knife along the front seam of the washer where the top meets the front panel. About 2 inches in from each side, you will find a retaining clip. Push in with the putty knife and push down while lifting up on the top panel. Repeat this on each side and the entire washer top will lift up, allowing access to the washer interior. Remove the screws holding the front panel in place and remove for full access.

Use a putty knife to push the spring clips in where the top of the front panel meets the washer top, about 2 or 3 inches in from each side. Front panel pulls forward and lifts off pegs, revealing two 1/4 inch drive hex screws holding top to side panels. If your washer has the lid switch near the front, push the tab on the back side toward the center of the switch and push switch up, then twist 90 degrees and pass switch back through the opening. Now lift washer top at the front side. Most washer tops will unhook from the back side now, but some need to be slid an inch to the side yet to remove once the top is lifted a few inches. If you model still has the lid switch near the back of the washer opening, lift the top at the front and unhook the back of the washer top, pull the top forward a few inches and unplug the lid switch disconnect block. (two wires)

use a putty knife about 4-6 inches from the outside edge in the gap between the top and frount push in with the putty knife blade to disengage the top retaining clip repeat this on the other side
lift up the top water valve on the right rear of the unit

If this is a Calypso, there are retaining clips holding the top down in the front of the washer. You will need to look along the seam where the top meets the front panel the washer about 2 inches in from each side. Using a putty knife, insert into the seam and push straight in while lifting on the top. The retaining clips will release and the top lifts up. It may take a second set of hands to make this a little easier. When you get the top lifted up, there will be a couple of screws holding the front panel in place. Remove them and you have access to the interior of the washer. If this is not a Calypso, please post back so I can give you correct advice. I hope this helps you.
