SOURCE: Frost on Ice Maker shute

Dtot, does the flap shut all the way? Sounds like you are drawing moisture from the chute. The flapper should seat so that no air is being drawn in. I have seen a number of these Whirlpools where the pin and spring retainer has broken off from the dispensor housing causing this problem. They use to replace the whole freezer door because the dispensor housing is not a servicable part. They have now come out with a kit to address this problem. This is not a fun job for a first timer. You may want to contact Whirlpool and inquire about the aforementioned. If this is your case, there is a good chance they will cover it. Catriver..post back.

SOURCE: Ice Maker on/off switch has blinking red light, will not produce ice. Manual no help

When you open the freezer door the light should be blinking. When you hold the flipper door shut (on the left hand side) without blocking the beam, the light should stay on solid. If all of this happens then the optics are o.k. If optics are ok then you most likely have a broken motor module on the icemaker and should replace the icemaker thermostat along with it. A bad icemaker thermostat will lead to the module breaking. If you not sure how to replace these parts then I would just replace the whole icemaker. That would be easiest and usually not much more expensive.

SOURCE: Refridgerator ice maker not making ice

actually it should be blinking when door opened, try closint the little flap on left side of freezer liner, does hte light then become solid??? if so the electronic control is working correctly.. open the flap acessing to ice maker itself is there any ice in the machine now?? perhaps an ice cubes is jammed and not allowing hte icemaker to advance.. ck the little black nozzle(fill tube) crush it with your fingers is it full of ice???if so your fill tube is frozen and needs to be thawed. this is a pretty hard ice maker to trouble shoot. lastly theres ascrew under the rt corner if ice machine 1/4 nut driver. remove htat screw it releases acover for wires. the ice maker will pull out (youl need to push up a little tab along the left siderail inwhich the ice aker sits , after removed pry off the white cover if ice maker and look at the center gear. sometomes the tabs holding that gear on are broken in which case hte ice maker wont work and needs replacing(you cant sevice the main gear replace the entie assy. let me know what you find( iknow it sounds like a lot but youll be alright!!!!!

SOURCE: Ice maker not producing any ice.

Pour about 1/2 cup of water into icemaker . Squeeze the black fill tub which is above the icemaker cup . If ice apears to be in it , this indicates that the weter valve is not completely closing , letting a drip ocasionally go thru and freezing inside the tube , ( water valve bad ) . that will be a different solution . If the icemaker dumps the cubes after freezing . and black tube is not frozen , replace the water inlet valve . If the icemaker does not dump the ice after frozen , replace the icemaker ( only 1 screw holds the icemaker in , located on rear portion on right , faceing down . Also check the icemaker rake , which should be about the 2:30 position . To thaw out the black tube (which runs thru the top of the refrig ) a 1/4 push on connector will be needed . Remove the icemaker and use a hairdryer aimed up into the hole . Cut the tubing to the fill tub behind the fridge about 9 inches from where it enters the top of the fridge . This will let warm air inside the top fill line to help thaw . Ocassionally blow thru the 9 inch tube until you can blow thru it . May take a day or 2 , depending how frozen the line is . Once air will go thru , install the push on connector to couple the cut lines back togather .

The blinking red light on the right side , is the receiver for the electric eye for cutting off the icemaker when the door bin is full , This blinking is normal . 2 blinks ...pause...2 blinks..etc .

Do not replace the filter if water flow is good thru the dispensor .

SOURCE: Icemaker not working- red light flashes constantly

The red light should flash twice , pause then flash twice constantly . If you close the flap on the left side , then the light should go off . This shows the optics (ice maker cut off ) are good .

Check the black tube ( fill tube ) , which puts water into the ice maker , to see if it is iced inside . If so , then the water valve behind the refrig is bad . It seeps into the tube and freezes , blocking the water flow .

Pour about 2/3 cup of water into the ice maker . If it freezes and dumps , then the water valve needs replaced . If it doesn't dump , and stays frozen in the ice maker , replace the ice maker . Also , make sure the coils under the front of the refrig are clean , as this will cause warmer temp in the freezer and the ice maker needs 5 degrees to operate .

Ice maker sotp making ice / red light blinking

J, As you open the freezer door the LED on the right should flash 2X with a pause repeatedly. When you hold the left side emmiter down the light should stay on steady. If you have this, you know the optics are good unless the ejector blades are not home. First thing to check is where the ejector blades on the ice maker are parked. They should be resting in the 2:00 position. If they are not, you could have a broken module. If they are in the 2:00 positon the next thing to check would be the fill tube. You want to make sure it is not frozen over. You can disconnect it from the back and see if you can blow through the line or visually inspect it. If all of the above mentioned check out, jump start the ice-maker. Remove the quarter inch screw holding the harness cover on the right side. Remove the harness cover. Pull the ice-maker straight out but be carefull not to smash the emmitter flap on the left side. Leave the harness connected. Get a jumper wire with the ends stripped apout a 1/4 inch. Unplug the refer and place the jumper in test holes T&H. Leave the jumper in and place the ice maker on the shelf where you can close the door. Close the door and plug the refer back in. Wait 30 seconds and open the door. The ice maker should be cycleing. Pull the jumper and place the module cover back on. Put the ice maker back in the rails. It should fill at approx the 12:00 position. Let me know how you make out. Catriver.

The ice maker has stopped making ice. The red light is flashing (in the freezer. Part ot technician?

Hi, The blinking red light is just a sensor that shuts down the ice maker when the door is open so that it will not dump. This should have no effect on why the ice maker is not working unless the little door that blocks the beam does not return when the door is shut again...
Here is a tip that I wrote about the reasons why ice makers do not work.

Ice maker will not make ice. Red light blinks

I have a kitchenaid with the same problem. Red light blinks twice when open is normal. Hold the flap down and the red light will be on.= normal= optics are working. If the ice rakes rotate, module is probably fine. Check the simplest solutions first, defrost the freezer in case the icemaker water nozzel might be frozen. That solved my problem. I then increased my freezer temp by a couple of degrees and so far, no problems.
Good luck.

Blinking light in refrigerator

I think that's the light letting you know the door is open so it won't drop ice. When I held in the catch on the left side (as if the door was closed) the red light went off for me.

Ice maker is not working

if you keep your hands out of the little beam slot on the paddel that is located on the left of the freezer and push it in the beam should shoot across to the reciever on the right and the light should stay on constant, that is if you have the switch on the right side turned on.

if it is turned on and the paddel is depressed and the light is still blinking the you need a beam kit part number 4389102
