Check for a clog in the hose or most likely the vacuum valve on top needs removed for cleaning or replacing. Hope that helps!

SOURCE: Repair manual for Electrolux EPIC 6500 SR

I don't have a manual for these but the trickiest thing about these units is taking them apart. If you have an Aerus/Electrolux dealer near you, it's not a bad investment to have them install the motor for you. You would probably receive a warranty with the work, and the things a long time. Great return on investment. But if you are determined to do it yourself, open the front of the canister and remove the bag. As you are looking at the front of the unit, there are two vinyl coverd strips that run the length of the unit. Pull forward on these strips and then pull out so that the vinyl seperates from the plastic underneath. Now grab the plastic strip with a pair of needle nose pliers and pull towards the front of the canister. These can be tough if the machine has never been opened up before, but pull as hard as you need to, to slide the strip out. Once both strips are out, turn the machine over, pull out on the sides of the bottom of the unit, and lift up. The bottom should come of relatively easily, and eveything will be exposed. Good Luck!!

SOURCE: Electrolux Epic 8000

YES,JUST TAKE OFF THE HEPA FILTER.
IF I MAY SUGGEST,IF YOU WANT TO BUY AN AREUS/ELECTROLUX YOU MAY WANT TO LOOK AT THEIR "BOTTOM OF THE LINE" MACHINE, THE "CLASSIC" IT'S HALF THE PRICE AND A MUCH BETTER DESIGN THEN THE NEW "FLAGSHIP" MODEL, WHICH IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THAN ANY PAST ELECTROLUX. IT'S BULKY,AWKWARD TO USE. EVEN IF YOUR BUYING FROM ANOTHER SOURCE, GO INTO AN AERUS DEALER AND GIVE THEM A TEST DRIVE.
I CLEAN APARTMENTS FOR A LIVING AND AM VERY FAMILIAR WITH ALL ELECTROLUX MODELS.
GOOD LUCK!

SOURCE: Electrolux Epic 6500/ handle clip broke....

The clip can be replaced by taking apart the handle. Small round plastic inserts cover up the screws that hold the handle together. Use a very small screwdriver to pry them off, then use a small screwdriver to remove the screws(Some of the screws may be star screws requiring a special screwdriver. The top part of the handle will then lift off and you will be able to change out the clip. Before reasembling the handle, clean the contacts which attach to the hose and be careful that you do not bend the contacts. It is kind of tricky to put back together.

Good Luck

SOURCE: I have an electrolux epic 6500 sr. The change bag

First, if it runs without a bag, there's a problem with the bag lock-out switch or wiring. This needs to be replaced/repaired by an authorized Aerus Electrolux technician.

First, turn dial on top of vacuum counter-clockwise so the smallest dot lines up with the arrow. See if it stays on. If not, detach hose and turn vacuum on. Place palm of hand over intake. If it turns off, it's possible that the tubes connecting to the CVA are clogged and simply need cleaned. This is most often caused by using "made to fit" Electrolux bags. Dust is sucked through the bags and into the motor compartment of the machine. All interior parts get covered in dust and need to be cleaned. If this is the cause, the vacuum is best cleaned and repaired at an authorized Aerus Electrolux store. If the vacuum shuts off, or won't turn on before placing hand over the intake, it's probable the control valve assembly is bad and needs replaced.

Another cause is an overheated motor due to clogged screen at back of bag well, full or clogged bag, dirty afterfilter, bad wiring/connections, clogged hose, clogged power head, or bad motor. It depends largely on the type and model of cleaner. Clogged wands are also a possibility, but unlikely.

Check and clean screen at back of bag well.

Replace bag. Make sure it's a genuine Electrolux bag made by Home Solutions.

Check and replace afterfilter if necessary. These should be replaced after every six bags.

Broken and worn wiring connections are often found in the hose ends due to abuse and normal wear and tear. You can check the continuity of the hose using a continuity tester or multi-tester. If a multi-tester, turn dial to one of the Ohm settings. Place one probe into one of the terminals on the end of the hose. This will be referred to as T1. Touch the other probe to each of the terminals/connections on the other end of the hose. These will be T3 and T4. One of them should read zero, the other should read infinity. Repeat this with the other terminal, which will be T2.

Drop a marble in one end of hose and let it roll through. If it doesn't roll through, the hose is clogged and needs to be cleared. Plug hose into the exhaust port of the vacuum, place other end in the in port. Turn vacuum on. This provides a blowing and sucking action which should clear the hose.
Detach hose from power nozzle (PN). Drop a marble into the wand end of PN. If it rolls through, it's clear. If not, there's probably a clog behind the brush where the intake opening is. You may be able to reach this through wand end with needle nose pliers, or either end with a knitting/crochet needle or a bent coat hanger.

If none of these "fixes" provide the answer to the problem, it should be taken to the nearest Aerus Electrolux store for diagnosis. Repairs or checks involving disassembly of the vacuum should always be done by an authorized Aerus Electrolux service technician.

The store nearest you can be found by following the instructions at the below listed link:

Where is the CVA located in the Electrolux Epic 6500SR?

You need to replace the control valve. It's inside the canister under the dirt cup. If you want it done by a professional, call your local authorized Aeurus dealer.

Accessory compatibility between Electrolux Models 1521 and Epic 6500 SR

No, they have different connectors. 1521 uses a pigtail hose that has little metal clips. 6500 has a plastic end with an arrow that helps guide you for proper placement. Unfortunately you will need 2 separate hoses for the respective models.

The bag light stays on, the bag is new, the vac keeps going off, Am I doing something wrong?

First, turn dial on top of vacuum counter-clockwise so the smallest dot lines up with the arrow. See if it stays on. If not, detach hose and turn vacuum on. Place palm of hand over intake. If it turns off, it's possible that the tubes connecting to the CVA (control valve assembly) are clogged and simply need cleaned. This should be performed at an authorized Aerus Electrolux store only.
Second, check the afterfilter. This should be changed after every six bags. It's located beneath the tool caddy on the back of the machine. Press in the tab and lift tool caddy. If the filter is dirty, remove and replace. If you're out, try running the vacuum with no afterfilter.
I mentioned the CVA earlier, and a broken or worn out CVA will cause the vacuum to not start/run. This is an internal part and needs to be replaced by an authorized Aerus Electrolux service tech. Use the same check as above; detach hose, switch vacuum on. If it doesn't come on, it's most likely a bad CVA.

I have the electrolux vacuum epic series 6000 SR and bought it used therefore I dont have a manual. I have had it for about a yr and it worked great..it looked like it should have a filter but I didnt...

1. A manual can be downloaded from:
http://www.aerusvacuums.com/support/manuals/.
The Epic 60006500 is located under "Older Models". Download the Epic 6500 manual

2. Check for clogs in the hose and the power nozzle inlet.
3. Disconnect hose. Turn on vacuum. Does it run? If so, place hand over intake? Did it shut off? If it did, the problem is a worn out or broken component inside the vacuum. Generally a result of using generic "made to fit" Electrolux bags. This is a part that needs to be replaced in an authorized Aerus (Electrolux) shop.

Electrolux Epic 6500 Vacuum

Well, make sure the hose part is not clogged, this happened to my friends recently and their vacuum was smoking, if you're positive this isn't happening then it might be just the engine call the sellers, try to explain and see if they exchange for a new one or a refund.
