Start up error message issue: floppy disk fail

Hi!I am trying to setup my PC on an Elite motherboard K7S5A. I have installed 2 hard drives and now when I try to install the CD Rom drive before the PC boots on the screen it looks that my Hard disks and the CD Rom drive are read, but the error message appearing is: Floppy disk(s) fail (40)I don't know what to do as after this error message the PC does not boot up.

There is no floppy in it, but there is a CD in the CD Rom. Do you think the CD from the CD ROM can be the problem?

  • vg19mold Jun 22, 2009

The floppy was installed before, I just added a SATA drive to the motherboard and I might have moved the cable that connects the floppy to the board a bit, but checked later for it to be connected properly and firmly and i don't think is the connection. I am thinking to deactivte the floppy from BIOS, but I don't know what exactly should I do and if this will solve the problem.

  • vg19mold Jun 23, 2009

The drives I believe should not have anything to do with this as I
installed and set up the new hard as the one from which windows will
start. And it worked fine and started from my new hard drive. The
problem appeared after I connected the CD Rom to motherboard, actually
one of the hard drives share the same IDE connection cable.

  • vg19mold Jun 24, 2009

I figured out how to disable the floppy disk and the PC is starting now, but the CD ROM is unread and reading what was suggested I will try that as nothing I put in the CD ROM is being read by my PC, it says there is no disc, but the CD ROM I know for sure is running. Yes, I want to install a new OS on the new SATA hard from which I want the PC to run. Regarding chatting with IM, I am in GMT +2 time zone.

Also important I figured out I actually have a different elite motherboard on this PC it is Elite 848P-A7. Should I post another question then?

If im correct, you havent installed a floppy drive yet...
while the comp is booting press esc (on some comps its F10 it should say on the screen) and access the boot sequence..in there there is a list of boot items...they always list floppy drive as the first boot drive in case you need to recover your comp...remove floppy drive from your boot list making sure that your hardrive (C) is first drive to boot.
After you get your comp set up, you may want to change that sequence in case you ever have problems with your HDD

add a comment if you need more help

no a cd in it would only read "no boot info on disk" the same as if you had a floppy in

  • Anonymous Jun 22, 2009

enter bios and there will be on the menu an item that says "boot sequence"

thats where you need to edit the sequence

FYI..there should be a diagram on the outside of your hardrive that shows different setups for the drive...if the drive has the operating system on it, make sure that it is set to be the "master" there is usually a connector that connects 2 different pins to config the drive

  • Anonymous Jun 22, 2009

if you added the drive for more storage and it doesnt have the OS on it it should be set to slave

  • Anonymous Jun 22, 2009

come to think of it after rereading your last comment it seems as though this started as you were trying to add an extra hardrive to your comp...if that is the case the new drive MUST be set to slave or the 2 drives will conflict each wanting to start your comp

  • Anonymous Jun 23, 2009

ok through the comments I think I have a good idea of whats going on...we will have to fix this through the process of elimination...

    1. while your comp is off, disconnect your cd drive

    2. you said you have set up your drives but, if you havent set your drives to be "master" and "slave"(VERY IMPORTANT), either do that or disconnect the old HD..that way you can be sure which drive is booting the comp.... if that is not done any number of strange things can happen

    3. boot your comp...when it prompts, enter BIOS and change the boot sequence to boot HD first

    4. if your comp boots OK, go to the device manager.(right click on my computer and select properties) depending on which OS you are running...if it doesnt boot you will have to set new HD to master or stay with old HD for now.

    5. go to dvd/cd rom drives and unistall any drives shown there

    6. shut down and reconnect cd drive...reboot

    7. windows should recognize new hardware and want to install it...let it....if not got to install new hardware in the control panel and install it manually...shut down

    8. reboot and test your cd drive...if it works repeat the same with your floppy drive..if you are still getting the same error message about the floppy, shut down and reconnect original HD

Question: are you trying to install a different operating system with the new HD?...I dont know if you are trying to change the OS or just have more room for files...BIOS will need to be different for another OS...i have the ability to chat, maybe that would be best if this doesnt work

  • Anonymous Jun 24, 2009

I dont know which OS you are trying to install but heres a link to updated bios which are compatable up to windows xp only

    http://www.techspot.com/drivers/driver/f...

did you run through the procedure I posted above? what was the outcome?

Bootable device has not been dectected

When the PC cannot see a boot file/disk on either thehard disk or floppy drive it gives an error message "No bootable device. Insert boot disk and press anykey" First thing, check to see if the is a floppy disk inthe floppy drive, if so removes this disk. If there was no disk in the floppy drive then it maybe a hard disk problem.
Check the BIOS to see if the hard disk is detected, if not open the case andre-seat the data cable on the hard drive and also where it connects to themotherboard disk controller.
If it still gives this error message and the BIOS does not detect this harddrive, then the hard drive is probably faulty.
A further check on the hard drive, remove the hard drive and connect it to anUSB hard drive adapter and connect it to a working computer's USB port, if thiscomputer does not detect it as an external storage device then the hard driveis faulty.
To get the computer operating again, install a new hard drive in your computerand then install Windows on this hard drive plus the computer's devicedrivers and your programs.

Hi, When I try to start my Dimemsion 5150C in Windows XP computer, I received one of the following error messages "Floppy diskette seek failure Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run the setup...

The "floppy" disk-drive (3.5-inch diskette) on your computer is broken.
Press F1 to ignore the error, and to boot from your C: drive.
Or, press F2 to enter BIOS SETUP, and then navigate through those "setup" screens to tell the computer to "disable floppy seek", or change the setting from "3.5 1.44Mb drive" to "none".
Or, take the computer to a technician, and buy a replacement disk-drive, and get it installed.

Elite Group K7S5A Boot Problem

Try this... Remove all cards, hard drive(s) and cables, such as cdrom and floppy, except the video connection so that you can see what is going on. Go to the bios setup. Set all of the bios settings to default as you exit to reboot. Then try again. By setting the bios, that should take care of it. Then replace the other items, cards one by one and watch the reactions.
Hope it works.

When I start my computer I get an error message: Disk I/O error.

The hard drive in that PC is failing or has failed. The drive controller is failing or failed. The drive controller on the motherboard is failing or failed.

Too many possiblilities but you should get the drive looked at first.

And I would suggest not truning that PC on anymore until you do so

Cannot install win 2k or win xp xp on biostar m7ncg 400 v7.2 mobo

Hi dewasu1803,
seems like a hard drive issue. (Unless you received an error message from the system during setup of 2k or XP)? (Also hope its a certified Window CD & not a copy).
Here are two ways to get around this. The fastest is to use a software program to clean the hard disk drive. Best software I have come across it Boot & Nuke. Download from this site; http://www.dban.org/download (Darik's Boot and Nuke 1.0.7 ).

On the other hand, its suggested you go to the hard disk drives manufactures web site & download their utility software which will allow you to create a bootable floppy disk too. Boot the system to the floppy. If there is an issue with the drive the floppy software will repair it. If there is a problem with either the MBR or FAT it will also fix it. You'll also be able to setup the type of file system, NTFS or FAT32, ECT. If you include the manufacture & model number of the 120GB drive I'll include the web site for downloading.

For Seagate & Maxtor go here; http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/

Western Digital start here: http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?lang=en

If you did receive an error message while attempting to install, post the message here!

Good luck dewasu1803!

Sata hd, installing windows

Hi nveronika,
First things first. Find the name of you're SATA hard disk drive.
Please go to the manufacture's web site & download the floppy drive setup/utilities bootable software or creat a bootable CD from the manufactures site. Boot the system with their software & setup you're hard disk drive which will run in a DOS like window. (This should resovle the blue screen issue).
There are two different revision for the motherboard GA-M52l-S3
(Revisions, 2.0 uses the NVIDIA® GeForce 6100 / nForce 430 chipset): http://www.giga-byte.com/Products/Motherboard/Products_Spec.aspx?ProductID=2818
& (Revision 1.0 which uses the NVIDIA® nForce 520LE Chipset): http://www.giga-byte.com/Products/Motherboard/Products_Spec.aspx?ProductID=2634
Which is you're motherboard? Once you find the correct motherboard you can download the the needed software directly from the web site & create the correct floppy disk needed when pressing the F6 key during windows installation. If you still get an error message try another fresh floppy disk. (Corruption of files to a floppy usually mean the floppy drive is dirty or bad or the floppy disk is bad). It is also possible that the data cable to the floppy drive is loose or defective. Downloading directly from Gigabyte is suggested over using the CD.

Good luck nveronika!

Hi pc wont start

This error can be caused by one or more of the below possibilities.
Floppy or CD that is not bootable is cur...
BIOS or CMOS setup is not setup properly...
Hard disk drive does not have bootable f...
The hard disk drive is bad or not connec...
Solution: Floppy or CD that is not bootable is currently in the computer Verify that no floppy diskette or CD is currently in the computer. If a diskette or CD is in the computer that is not bootable your computer may attempt to boot from that diskette or CD causing this error message.
BIOS is not setup properly Additional information and help with getting into BIOS or CMOS setup can be found on http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000...
Verify that your hard disk drive is setup and detected properly in BIOS. You're computer should list a hard disk drive installed either under the main page or the drives page in BIOS. If BIOS indicates the drive is not installed or not detected skip to Hard Disk drive is bad or not connected ....
Verify the boot options are properly set in BIOS, almost all BIOS setups should contain options specifying how your computer boots. For example, most computers should have their boot options setup similar to the below example.
- Floppy drive
- CD drive
- Hard drive

Rest your BIOS to default values. Many BIOS will enable users to reset the values to the default settings. If you've tried the above options without success try resetting the BIOS.
Hard disk drive does not have bootable files on it It is possible that command.com or another bootable file may be missing from the hard disk drive. Follow the below steps to possible resolve your issue.
Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows ME users
Boot from a bootable floppy diskette.
At the A:\> type fdisk <press enter>
If you receive a message no fixed disk present, read Hard Disk drive is bad or not connected ....
If you are able to get into fdisk, choose option 4 to display the partition information. In the partition information, if the System is listed as FAT16 or FAT32 then continue to step 5. If you have a message indicating no partitions defined, no information is on your hard disk drive and you will need to create a new partition. See our fdisk page for additional information.
If you see FAT16 or FAT32 in fdisk press the ESC key until back at the A:\>
Once at the A:\> type, sys c: <press enter> (only do this command if you are using the same operating system that this diskette was created on).
This should return a message 'System Transferred', if you receive bad command or file name and have verified you have typed the command properly, you will need to obtain a bootable diskette with the file sys.com on it.
If system was transferred successfully, reboot the computer and issue should be resolved.
Windows 2000 and Windows XP users
Boot from either your ERD, your bootable Windows CD, or your bootable restore CD.
Once boot attempt to repair Windows. If you're able to repair Windows remove the disks and reboot the computer.
All users
If your operating system is not listed above or the above steps did not resolve your issue you can also try erasing the hard disk drive and starting over. The hard disk drive is bad or not connected properly
If you have attempted all above suggestions and you are still encountering the same issues, verify the connections are properly connected to the computer if the hard drive was recently installed or the computer was moved.
Unfortunately, if all connections are setup properly and all the above recommendations have been attempted, it is likely that the hard disk drive is bad and it will need to be replaced.

Or:

Cause:
This is an expected operation. In the Boot Device priority setting in BIOS, you will see Removable Dev. (floppy), Hard Drive, ATAPI CD-ROM, and typically last is Intel® UNDI PXE 2.0. This setting will attempt to boot off a remote agent using the onboard NIC. By seeing this message it means the PC cannot find a boot partition on the floppy disk, hard drive or the CD ROM to load the operating system. Solution:
Install an operating system or put in a bootable device into the floppy or CDROM. If you do not plan to boot to a remote boot host, you may disable the Intel® UNDI PXE 2.0 option from the BIOS setup utility boot order. Relevant Information: No operating system installed
C drive does not have an operating system loaded
