Dropped camera, did not hit hard, on rug, lens will not retract, any way I can fix this myself? thank you for any and ALL tips you can give me as i have no car to get to a camera shop, sincerly , tina
After my son dropped my PowerShot A570 today, the lens was in cockeyed, wouldn't retract, and all I got was the "Len Error" message. I tried tapping it on the side protruding out farthest but no go. So, with the power OFF, using my hand I applied alot of force on the side sticking out furthest, push, push, pushing and finally forced it back into the housing. Powered it on and it works now. Took 30 pictures so far and it is working GOOD!
My acm dropped and i messed up the lsenes it wont go in please help me how can i fix it my self?
I too dropped my A540 in camera mode and made the lens go askew to the side, resulting in a stuck lens and "Lens Error, restart" message. At first I tried pushing the lens back to center with my hands but couldn't exert enough force. I then put the lens in a vice... not too tight... and torqued the camera to straighten the lens. The lens clicked/popped back into a straight position, but on power-up the lens still refused to retract and I still had the error message. Now feeling a little bolder I started pushing on the lens in many different ways. First I put the lens face down on a table and pushed down on the camera. Again the lens clicked. On power-up the lens rotated just a bit but no further. I cycled the power umpteen times but it would just jitter a bit. Now I started twisting the lens back and forth which would make the lens go in and out to some extent. Still no luck on power up.
I then tried again to put the lens face down on a table and pushed down on the camera. It went askew again. I straightened it back out and repeated the face down push. the lens clicked again and this time SUCCESS... the lens retracted and the camera worked on power up. However the lens does make one little click sound whenever I go from full zoom to full wide-angle... I'm sure i'm probably missing at least one gear tooth at this point... but hey, the camera works and takes good pictures and I saved at least $100 in the shop.

I dropped my camera today and the lens won't retract. It says lens error, restart camera but that doesn't help.
Exact same thing..dropped it while on only about 10" onto a rug. It turned off and now not only will the lens not close/retract the camera will NOT turn on again either. I tried replacing the batteries with new ones, but no difference
