I seem to have a couple duds in my basil packet could this be a problem with the unit or duds with the actual seed pods. Has anyone else had this problem?

It depends on what you need to grind. Some electric coffee grinders are very good for certain seeds for example, while substances like basil come out better tasting and with a nicer color when crushed with a mortar and pastle. Also, if you need to produce big quantities of ground substances it would probably take you a long time to do it with mortar and pestle, and using an electric grinder would help you speed up the process.
You can do either, if you purchase a new seed kit you know the varities have been tested and grow in an AeroGarden. If you plant yourself, but sure to look for small or dwarf varities and lean toward water loving plants.
What problems did you have with your other herbs, not basil?
First you have to assume the battery that comes with your HRM would be new - keep in mind that it may be stored in the warehouse for many moons. Given that, open and take out the battery - that should make a hard reset on the HRM itself. Restore the battery and try the manual pairing again. The heart icon should pop up again.
Otherwise, you have to suspect the battery is low and need to be replaced.
well i recently also bought a aerogarden classic which i presume you to have it states in the aerogarden hand book in the master gardener kit ( which is a seperate seed kit purchase grow your own seed kit in other words! ) it states " even though great care and consideration is taken into producing the grow pods and selecting of seeds long transportation in humid or wet conditions may destry the seed" but this does not sound like you situation it clearly statets standard germination rate for a aergo garden is 4 days to rwo weeks tops you should also take into consideration if the size of seed some seeds have a greater tolerenace of water and need a bit more time for the water to germinate the seed regarding any more answers feel free to ask me on [email protected]
or easy enough read through this simple PDF its not relevant to the gourmet herb kit but the genral processes apply to all seed kits and gives you some good advice on all aspects from pruning to haarvesting and most challenging of all whe you have fruitnig crop how to polinate.
Hi kadoolittle, some pods do not sprout but can be return for a replacement. Check out the Dill article on the Aerogardeners Wiki for more info on growing it in the Aerogarden. http://aerogardeners.wikia.com/wiki/Dill
