Can I replace the video card or add a video card to my laptop Gateway MX3225 Notebook for a better one?

Video cards are normally built-in on the laptop motherboard and you cannot replace them or add a new one because there is not an expansion slot to add a video card.

I need to install a video card on a Sony VAIO VPC-EA36FM. I need instructions., video, etc.

Instructions
    • 1

Make sure that you have the latest drivers from the manufacturer of your new video card.

    • 2

Remove the video drivers for the current video card. Check the Start menu for any Remove utilities specifically for the current video card.

  • 3 Remove the current video card in the Device Manager. Now you're ready to install the new video card.

  • 4 Turn off the computer and disconnect it from the power source.
  • 5 Follow directions from the computer's user manual to open the case. In most cases, you'll just remove a side panel.
  • 6 Locate the AGP video slot. If there is a video card in it, remove the video card.
  • 7 Orient the new video card so that the metal bracket lines up with an open slot in the back of your computer and the gold contacts on the video card line up with the opening in the AGP connector.
  • 8 Push the new video card into the AGP slot with steady, gentle pressure.
  • 9 Connect any power cables to the power supply.
  • 10 Secure the video card in place with a screw through the card bracket into the computer case.
  • 11 Close up the case, following the computer manual's instructions.
  • 12 Reattach the power cord, monitor cable, keyboard and mouse.
  • 13 Power up your computer. Windows will detect the new video card and ask if you want to install it now. Click "OK" or "Yes."
  • 14 If prompted, direct Windows to the directory where the video drivers are located. Follow the prompts to install the drivers for the new video card.

What does a video card do?

The video card sends video data to the monitor. If the monitor does not display any images then the video card could be faulty.
It could also mean the monitor is faulty.
To check whether the video card or monitor is faulty, connect another monitor to your computer, if this monitor also does not displays any image then the video card is faulty.

"video card is not 'compatible' with the video card"

Can you clarify what you mean here? Since the video card fits into the motherboard, not another video card.

    Hi there,

Yes it is possible to still plug-in an expansion video card. The 256MB limit is for the shared memory if you will be using your integrated Video Card. You can ignore it once you plug in the new video card.

    Hope this helps.

I'm trying to connect my IBM Thinkpad T61 to my television. Question # 1. Does the T61 have a video card ? Question #2 Does the T61 need a video card?

    Hi,

Question #1. Yes, all laptops has a video card. A laptop will not boot up without a video card.
Question #2. No, your laptop already has a video card.

    For some information.
In a laptop, you either have 1 or 2 video cards installed in it. One is the video card that is already bundled with the motherboard (we call it integrated) and the other one is another video card that is attached to the motherboard (we call it dedicated). A dedicated video card is bundled to a laptop for purposes of use, mainly for graphics related businesses (like drawing, animation, gaming etc.).

    Hope this helps.

Loaded new video card on computer but motherboard video card will not let it work. The motherboard video card does not show up in the device manager and the computer says the new video card is working.

    Device Manager is showing correct.
Try connecting the display cable to the Video card and restart the computer.
If that doesn't work, check which display adapter is selected in BIOS.
If it is selected as the Video card, then u need to check whether the new video card is good.

Pb not seeing my new video card

The 9600 video card, I am fairly sure, has a connection on the card itself for power. Have you maybe fogotten to connect the power supply to the video card? If not , try reseating the video card.  A third possibality.. Some MB, if they have on board video, require you to turn off the "on board video" in order for it to use (see) the New PCI video card. Hope this helps.
