TV will not come on It tries to start then shuts down. The light blinks 7 times and pauses then continues the pattern. I turned off the power strip overnight but now continues in the same way. The tv is at least ten years old.
These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit stage inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power led, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating, to many popular brand TVs and other devices. Viewing it in "Mosaic" will make surf easy.

Undoutably the SMPSU (Switched Mode Power Supply) is faulty.. This will be a shop job... ensure you get a firm "Quote" and explanation B4 allowing it to be fixed.

The blinking is an indication that the set detected a problem. The code usually indicates a bad regulator circuit. If yu can solder, you can probably fix this your self. Please let me know if you wish to attempt the repair. If not, expect a parts cost in the $25-$40 range plus the local labor rate for the repair.
SOURCE: STANDBY LIGH BLINKING 9 times...
I have a Sony SRS BBE Trinitron (WEGA). The last few days when I tried to turn it on using the remote the Red Light would go on but the TV did not turn on. I would have to press the power button again to turn it on.. I tought the remote battery was just low.
Today when I tried to turn it on nothing is happening and the Red Light is blinking 9 times ??? I tried to unplug it and try it again, still does the same thing ???
We need help...

I think its time to say goodbye to that "dinosaur!"
Had the same TV. Tried to get it repaired. Nobody works on them. If you do find someone, it will cost you and you'll probably have to cart the heavy SOB to them. I was lucky to find someone on Craigslist who wanted it for parts. Good Luck!
