I have the same exact problem with an AT&T phone. Worked flawlessly for over 2 years and all of a sudden is "searching..", and to make it worse, sometimes a call will be disconnected when it starts "searching...". I'm going to call Bell Canada to see if they know why.

Philips SE 455 twin set cordless: The charge lasts less than an hour when using speaker phone, so I am looking for replacement batteries. Phones only 2-3 years old and absolutely fine in all other...

A higher capacity battery should work even better because a fully charged 900 mAh battery allows the phone to operate 50% longer than a 600 mAh battery between charges. I have had good results with Rayovac Recharge Plus 900 mAh in my Philips SE450. This phone will latch and not operate upon ringing if it doesn't like its batteries (probably high internal resistance), even though the batteries test good on a battery tester.
