I recently got a minolta x700, it appeared to be working, the shutter would fire and the film advance lever was working fine even without film or batteries, then when i was going through the functions, the lever stopped advancing and i couldnt release the shutter (it was loose). So i flipped it over and twisted the coin slot on the right side, it sounded like the shutter fired, but now the lever is stuck! And the coin slot wont budge. I have a project due, and i have no money to take it to a shop. What can I do?It happened when i was trying out batteries ( the right kind just low on power) and i was trying the different modes
Use or buy a brand new battery from store that sell lot of them.
Do not get from store that only has a few, meaning they have been sitting there for years.

When you press on the shutter release does it "click"? A few hard taps with the end of your finger onto the shutter reelase button may unjam it if it is stuck...

The Minolta X-series (X-300/370, X-570, X-700) were known for this issue. Two capacitors under the top and bottom covers go bad over time. They prevent the shutter from releasing, so you cannot wind to re-**** the shutter. If you're handy at these things, you can buy the caps, remove the covers, solder in the new caps, and be fine. This issue is well known and you can find instructions on the web. Or you can send it in for repair. Garry's Camera repair in Niles,ILL will do it cheaply at $58 incl return postage. Look him up on the web.
