I found the user guide in French. It says to slide back the cover behind the Logo on top.
also found it in English:

Installing the Batteries
Optical Mouse
1 Remove the battery cover from the top of the mouse by
pressing the top center (over the Targus logo) and
sliding it back.
2 Insert the supplied batteries , making sure that the
positive (+) and negative (-) ends of each battery match
the polarity indicators inside the battery housing.
WARNINGS: When replacing the batteries, you may use
alkaline or other heavy-duty NiMH batteries. Never
combine an alkaline with a NiMH battery in a device.
Avoid mixing new and used batteries in a device.
3 Slide the battery cover back in to position until it “clicks”
firmly into place.
4 Turn on the mouse by sliding the on/off switch on the
bottom of the mouse to the “on” position.
The optical sensor, located on the bottom of the mouse,
glows red.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

I have model # PAWM004 & CANNOT LOCATE ON THE MOUSE WHERE THE BATTERY COVER IS? NEED TO CHANGE BATTERIES

On the black cover, press down on the Targus label - to release the latch underneath - then slide the cover backwards. It's a little tight but it shoud come out. I did it just a minute ago. You'll need two (2) AAA for replacement. Cheers.

My mouse stopped working, it does move once in awhile. I don't see any batteries. Is it time for a new one? Any suggestions. It is only 6 months old.

The battery compartment can be accessed in this mouse (Targus pawm002e) by sliding off the top cover of the mouse.
It's not located on the bottom of the mouse, as usual, so it may be hard to figure out at first.

Good luck, and please come back with a rating/testimonial if helped :)

I have Targu Laptop Remote Mouse #Pakp003, and I want to change batteries as it is not responding to my Kensington Usb adapter. How do I change batteries as havent used for 1 yr.

I discovered you had to push top of mouse near the rolling click, and then slide off cover towards the back of mouse. I earlier thought the battery access must have been on bottom of mouse.
