LG DLE5977W dryer has stopped and developed a motor hum. How can I fix it?

Dryer is 3 1/2 years old Stackable dryer Hum began this week Dryer 3-5yrs old? Starting humming and flashing the regular 'check filter', stalled cold, only hums, I cleaned out all lint entries/exits. Cust serv. suggested a reset, which didn't work, so they recommend I call a 3rd party serv. tech., which will inevitably charge an arm and a leg to even come out to check this. If anyone has any ideas, I'd love them, but I probably won't buy LG again.

I am assuming that the hum indicates the motor is running but the drum is not turning.  Possibly a broken drum belt however the check filter warning is indicating low air flow so the blower wheel could be broken at the connection to the motor shaft.

LG DLE5977W dryer displays Clean Filter and hums without turning drum when Start button is pushed

I would guess a broken drive belt. Just take top off and check. Two screws on back, pull top back about 2 inches, left off. Belt should be around drum. If belt is loose or gone, it's broken.

Frigidaire electric dryer. 1.5 years old, stopped turning and only hums when button is pushed

Hello
Is it a pleasant sounding hum, like the sound of a motor running? If so , probably your belt broke. If that hum goes on and on for several minutes, it's definitely belt. Bad motor or start relay, would cut out quickly. Either way ,youv'e got to pull out machine and pull off back to inspect.

Ge electric dryer. suddenly stopped working. Will

Hi Stv,
There isn't really major problem, but a problem.
You will need to unplugged your unit and take it apart. Are you handy?
If and when the unit is apart look at the motor and the fan exhaust and see if there is a coin or screw is jamming the motor or the fan
while you are in there you may want to clean it up,
That should be the problrm

LG DLE5977W electric dryer hums when attempting to restart

This is usually the motor but not always. Remove the belt. Check for obstructions in the blower fan housing. Manually rotate the shaft of the motor.
If the motor is very stiff, or impossible to rotate manually, and the blower fan housing is clear, you need to replace the motor. If the motor rotates freely, run the motor momentarily with the belt removed and the blower in place. If the motor runs fine with the belt removed, there may be a problem with the idler pulley or the clothes drum. Try to rotate the drum by hand. If it is very difficult to move, correct any problem with the rollers, pulley, rear bearing, then reassemble the dryer and try it again. If the motor hums but doesn't rotate on its own even with the belt removed--yet you can turn it freely by hand--you usually need to replace the motor or the motor start capacitor. When statrting the dryer it doesn't start but hums

Sounds like a bad motor to me. If you hold down the start button and hums while its pressed its the motor. Depending on how old it is should determine your decision of whether or not to have it fixed. Hope this helps...

Gas dryer makes loud hum

Sounds like you may have a motor issue, they can get lint trapped inside, and it causes the motor to overheat, and eventually go out. You can remove the top, then the front, and see if thats the problem. Usually, once the motor starts making noise, its time to replace. Right now, the packings in the motor are cold, and once they heat up, they stop making noise, so it could last quite a while.

LG DLG2532 Gas Dryer will only dry on manual setting

If you use dryer sheets, LG recommends no.  Dryer sheets cause a film that will not allow the sensors to feel the clothes moisture during the drying process thereby causing the computer to countdown the timer quickly.  To clean out the sensors, use a green pad and scrub the sensor bars inside the dryer drum.  That should remove the film left by the dryer sheets.

The Drum on my LG DLE2512W Dryer will not turn

no problem with motor or control board. fault is with the motor capacitor only. this is often attached to the motor or near it. the value of the capacitor will be printed on it (usually about 8uf) and you should be able to source from an electrical spares shop
