Display Error C:31:42

Hello,

When I rewind or play my Hi 8 Tapes on my DCR-TRV110 camcorder, the camcorder stops, makes a beeping sound and displays a message: C:31:42

Unfortunately, I no longer have my manual.  What do you recommend?

Grant

    Hello,

Thank you for your response. I tried what you suggested and it did not work. I removed the battery and installed another battery. I plugged the AC power adapter into the camcorder and that did not work either. I think it is more than what you are suggesting. It seems to go into this warning mode fairly quickly.

So you know, I finally found the manual. It says that if the message starts with C and not E, then it is something I can fix. However, I have played with it over and over again to no avail.

Can you continue to look into this?

    Hello,

It is now November 8th but I haven't heard back from my first reply on Nov 6th. Just wondering how you are making out.

The Sony website trouble code sais your Camcorder has a problem and needs a power reset.

The remedy in the SONY troubleshooting guide is copied below.

  1. Turn off the camcorder.
  2. Remove the battery or disconnect the AC power adapter for 60 seconds.
  3. Insert the battery or reconnect the AC adapter.

Hi Grant sorry about the delay. I just got an email fixya that you had posted a comment tonight. I am on here everyday almost and for some reason fixya did not alert me to you second comment. I apologize. Give me a chance to study this problem further. Right now since the intial research in finding Sony's remedy to the solution did not work, I will have to get back to the sony manual and see if I see anything else. I am thinking now that you may have a dirty Tape read head. Please tell me what the camcorder will do. I am assuming a lot of stuff here. I guess everything works accept rewinding or playing back the tape.

Possible solution for you Grant. Check out this webpage. These guys took there Camcorder like your apart and cleaned a purple piece inside and put it back together and it fixed it.

Had the same problem, and the tape halfway ejected, but wouldn't go back down nor open all the way. I tried the power reset you posted here 5 years ago and that worked. Thanks! And thanks to the internet for still being here for 5 years.

How to play tapes not recorded by Sony Handycam DCR-TRV130 Digital-8 Digital Camcorder

It is my understanding that the camera won't playback those formats, timecode or not. There are VCR type units for the HI8 and other formats. They should be cheap on eBay now...

My camcorder won't play back tapes-or rather, it plays them, but they skip. This just started happening, and we have a new camcorder, but I have a lot of H8 tapes I can't get the video off of.

It may be a tape lubrication thing. Wet verses dry.
Some users swear by sticking to one brand.

Sometimes you can get drag or chatter when the lubes are mixed.
It may sort itself out, otherwise it's off to see the local Sony guy.

My sony handycam model no:DCR-TRV110 does not play videos that recorded in tape, but time is moving, please help me

The first thing is to run a cleaning tape through the camera for 8-14 seconds and see if it remedies the situation. If not, the camera has a problem and will need to be repaired.

Cannot playback tape on Sony DCR HC36

Have you try cleaning tape? Sometimes, it is just a dirty head. Try to clean it, see if it helps.

Hi 8 tapes will only play on a Hi 8 machine. I would recommend you search for a place that will do the video transfer for you. There are several in my town and likely you could find one on the internet.

Playback problems started suddenly

I had the same problem. I fixed it by gently dropping the camcorder on the carpeted floor. I know it sounds silly, but it really works. I've had to do it twice, and it worked both times. I hope it works for you.

Picture and sound is skipping or stuttering during playback. It happens when playing any video.

This was often caused by mixing brands of tape. Do not use head cleaners more than absolutely necessary. More than half a dozen times or so, and heads are toast.

Use quality tapes of the same make/length, from new, and you will be fine. (the coatings on the tapes vary, and can/did interact with each other.)
