It unscrews. If it has a lock screw in the center that is left handed so it unscrews in a clockwise direction. Then the impeller unscrews in a counter clockwise direction. Usually needing a good sharp rap to get it started. I usually use a screwdriver held sideways in the impeller and I hit it straight down with a cresent wrench. This will usually start it spimming. if that dosen't work you will have hold the back of the motor shaft and break it free by turning it with water pump pliers or the like.

How do you remove the impeller on a mission magnum centrifugal pump?

Open up the pump housing, by separating it into 2. Reveal the impeller. If there is a center screw in the middle of the opening of the impeller, it will normally be backwards threads. Remove that.
know if the impeller should unscrew off of the motors shaft, that will be normal threads. But, to do that, you will have to lock the shaft from spinning. Remove opposite side Cap on the motor, to reveal the shaft. Either use a wrench or flat blade screwdriver to lock the shaft. Now unthread the impeller from the motors shaft.

Can my shaft spin and not my impellor. how can i check

the impeller is usually screw onto the shaft or the shaft has a D (flatspot on one side to lock impeller) so no, the shaft cannot spin without the impeller moving unless the shaft is snapped or impeller is totally stripped (ive never seen either)
if the pump is running but not pushing water, take the wet end off and make sure there is no debris (leaves, worms etc) caught in the impeller fins. you will be amazed at how much that will reduce the performance of a pump

Pentair 011523 pump shaft seal is leaking. How do you remove the impeller and motor?

Separate the plumbing portion of the pump from the seal plate which is attached to the motor. The bolts will be a 9/16 inch hex head, that are visible facing the motor. Remove those bolts. That will then allow you to pull the motor and the seal plate away from the plumbing portion of the pump. Remove the diffuser which is covering the impeller, and then the impeller will need to be unthreaded off of the motors shaft. The motors shaft, will need to be locked. You can do this by removing the Cap on the backside of the motor and you can use whatever tool required to keep the shaft from spinning. Once you are able to lock the shaft, you can read the impeller... Note* some styles will have a screw in the middle of the impeller securing it to the motors shaft? This screw is Backwards thread, not normal thread. If your pump has this screw, need to remove it first, then you will be able to unthread the impeller off of the motors shaft.
once the impeller is removed, you can then remove the two halves of the shaft seal. Very carefully reinsert the new shaft seal into the proper places, just the way they were prior to you removing them.

Reassemble in backwards order as you disassembled everything.
good luck

How do I remove the Impeller of my aquaflo flomaster pump? I have the pump open, and I loosened the 4 screws at the base of the motor so the volute spins freely, but the impeller isn't detaching. Bruce...

At the end you loosened the motor thru-bolts you should have a cap covering the motor shaft end. Remove it to find the end of the shaft. Depending on the motor brand and age you should have either a flatted surface for a wrench or a slot for a screwdriver to secure the shaft from turning. Turn the impeller off counter-clockwise. Some impellers are so stuck you can not free them holding the shaft end this way. Disassemble the rotor from the pump motor and lock the whole works in a vise to then get a better grip on the impeller. Impellers are often cracked from seal failure so do not be surprised if your impeller breaks up before coming off the shaft.

The replacement part number is the 8 digits you will find molded into the impeller plastic. For a quote on a replacement part(s) please contact us thru www.arrowpools.net.

My Hayward just hums when I turn it on and after a few seconds the breaker pops.

You will need to disassemble the pump and check the impeller. remove any debris and try turning the impeller by hand. If it does not move or is dragging, you will need to overhaul the pump. Possibly a shaft seal leak has damaged the motor bearing(s). Replace the shaft seal and motor bearings. If the motor is badly deteriorated, you might need to replace the motor. Note... the impeller turns counterclockwise to loosen. you may need special tools to grip and hold the motor shaft and the impeller to prevent damage to the impeller. If the impeller is seized on the shaft from rust, you may have to break it to get it off. reassemble with teflon lubricant on the shaft threads when reinstalling the impeller. This will prevent seizure later.

First, separate motor and pump. Remove back cover of motor. Drive shaft of motor either has a slot on end for a large screwdriver or a flat on it for a wrench.(usually 7/16) Hold shaft and unscrew impeller.

Pump disassembly

I removed the impeller on my DW761UQB. The instructions were molded into the plastic pump housing. This is how I DID MINE: Remove motor mount screws. Remove the chopper screw (screw only goes into impeller, not motor shaft). Remove chopper and rotate/remove strainer. Place socket or wrench on impeller tip and place another wrench on rear of motor's plastic fan. Unscrew fan from impeller shaft ( threads are LEFT handed, turn CW). Once fan is 'backed off' of the impeller, CAREFULLY pry the motor/fan from pump housing (impeller is attached to motor shaft via splines). Don't crack the delicate plastic pump housing. Mine was stuck, but separated with moderate force. Now remove the impeller/seals from the pump housing. This worked for MY above mentioned model, I don't know what other models it applies to. I am not a pro.

Impeller loose on pump motor shaft

The bore in the impeller is spun out. Mix some JB Weld and apply a liberal amount to the bore of the impeller, install it back on the motor shaft and rotate the shaft a 1/2 turn to distribute the weld before cure. Originally the impeller was a press fit. Don't allow food to get sucked into the pump, lock down and damage to the impeller will occur
